its this kind of demo that kills arranger sales among younger players but i guess is aimed at the market that can afford tse expensive keyboards. Ths guy has been doing the same demo for the last 10 years. Its the same demohe did for the T1,2,3. The only difference is hat he has put on some more pounds over the years

I doubt seriously that there is a single young player in the audience other than maybe someone that is actually into this kind of stuff! Hard to kill arranger sales to a missing demographic!

Yamaha's Techno Expansion Pak could do wonders if marketed right, though.

I have said for a long time that the arranger manufacturers should sell TWO versions of each arranger. One packed with oldies styles and one packed with modern ones. And next to no crossover. Then sell the missing styles as an expansion pak to the few from each demographic that might want to play outside their age range.

Then you put the modern ones in stores that sell modern gear, and the oldies ones in Mom and Pop piano and organ stores, and Bob's yer uncle! Sales go through the roof!

Bill,

Most of us stumble across little nuggets on the internet and we post them so people can share the nuggets, this was not worth posting and I don't find it funny or interesting as many others here. BTW Bill I am not on anything and please don't ask or suggest this again, you didn't even include a funny so I take it you were serious, I don't drink or smoke, maybe I should and then the demo might sound and look good.

I agree with you, its a pity the people who made the video ain't a tenth as good, when we post things like this we assume someone might just be interested, when we post it without a comment good or bad then why do we post it?? I am totally confused1 As you say Michael is the best, he has turned out perhaps some of the best works on Yamaha KB and perhaps as a result sold more KB than anyone else.

Tony

The video is a live recording of a demo that was put on by Yamaha, and took place in the concert hall at the Okey Festival with those attending the festival in seats. Therefore if it is not up to scratch you should blame Yamaha, as Music Store has no control over what Yamaha do.

Judging by the inferior video quality, I seriously doubt if it was done by anyone even remotely connected with Yamaha...or anyone who could actually use a camera with any real skill...if it was a store employee, they should either be reprimanded, and/or taught how to use a camera properly.

Personally, I wouldn't post anything that bad on this forum...most of us here expect better than something that deplorable. frown

Totally amateurish , and unfortunately, does nothing to establish any confidence in the store sponsoring the show.

I'm continuously shocked by the stuff that is posted on UTube by major manufacturers. Much of it is AWFUL!

Lot of bad content is excused because it is "LIVE" from NAMM or elsewhere, but some actually purports to demo sound equipment, with sound captured by an on-board camera mike.

Much of this stuff is actually insulting to the customer...basically saying, "as a manufacturer, I don't care enough to prepare better materials for my customers".

From that standpoint, while this was not great, by any means, there are lots worse things out there.

Hi Ian

As far as I am aware the Okey Festival is run in conjunction with the Okey Keyboard magazine, and has no connection with any music store or manufacture.

Hi Bill,

I'm just a tad underwhelmed by seeing it posted here on SZ, as I have understood that you generally post high quality demos...I'm pretty sure (and I would certainly hope) you wouldn't post a Wersi video on SZ of this questionable quality.

We both know Michael is a very personable guy, and a genuinely fine player/demonstrator(I'm sure he is responsible for the sale of many Yamaha arrangers) and no doubt he deserves better than to be presented here on SZ (among some of his peers, friends and fans) in such an unflattering and amateurishly done video recording.

This posted video was a waste of time and Michael's considerable talent.

Just my two cents, and my humble opinion.

If there's something to blame the downturn in MI sales on OTHER than just the economy, the collapse of decent demos into excremental 'home video' BS that doesn't reflect 10% of a product's value or sound would be highest on my list.

Combine this with the collapse of the brick and mortar stores, so you can't actually go out and see for yourself in many areas what the new stuff sounds like, and you have a pretty good reason why MI companies are having a hard time.

Re: Tyros 4 at the Recent Okey Festival - 10/11/12 02:42 PM

Roland are already in the Arranger ring... BK-5, BK-7m, Prelude (?), etc..

Rumors of their demise are greatly exaggerated!

Can't agree with you Ian, Bill has posted some complete Wersi tosh in the past, in fact one a few days ago just as bad as this, must have been the same member of staff, the shaky mic and camera brigade, drinks the same beer as Bill. drink confused2 I don't think Bill is having a pop at Yamaha, I just think his sense of what is acceptable to us all as got up and gone... I am sure no one on SZ would ever post something like this and think we would be impressed with it. rolleyes
