It doesn't sounds like a Tyros... I tend to believe its the s950.
Plus, the styles are not Tyros' styles.

Anyway- what I like about this demo that it is NOT made by Yamaha. It is made by an ordinary player, not a pro. So you can hear what the keyboard /really/ sounds like. I find that the "official" demos from Yamaha are to... hmmm.. "factory"-like.

Re: 14 minute psr s950 demo - 10/04/12 10:45 AM

Thanks for posting. But, personally I'd prefer to hear the keyboard at it's best rather than hearing home made demo's from early buyers who aren't professional players (no offence intended by that). The professional sounding Yamaha demo's really show the keyboard off.

But again, as demo's are so scarce thanks for posting.

Stein ... I understand what you are saying, but while the 'manufacturer's professional demos' really show the capability of a KB, I like hearing what everyday players make it sound like ... because a lot of us are 'everyday' players ... I may not be able to make the board sound like the 'PRO' does, but if an everyday player makes it sound good, that means a lot to me ... of course I would like to hear the everyday player play styles and genres I might be more interested in, i.e. bossas, swing, cool jazz, etc.
But in the final analysis, it has to be our own 'hands on' evaluation that makes us decide if a board is right for our use ...

Yeah, I take your point too Tony. Ideal world we'd have a plethora of demo's from Yamaha and users to listen to.....and of course try the board ourselves asap.

Sound exactly like a psr s910.

I'm sorry, but this sounds like Yamaha of old. Drums and bass suck. No comparison to an Audya. I wish it weren't true, but if that demo is indicative of what it sounds like, not much has changed. I'm sure it is a fine machine but I hope it sounds better than that.

Sounds like the good ole PSR S700 smile Hope it's only the pic and not the sound of the new 950.

Re: 14 minute psr s950 demo - 10/06/12 08:11 PM

I gave it another listen through a good 2.1 It does sound better than the first time I heard it. The sounds... I couldn`t find a significant improvement in the sound from the 910. I will need to try it out once its available in stores before making a more accurate comparison.

By the way, it was very nice playing !! Thanks for sharing rolandfan.

Korg is launching the Krome and Pa600 here and I would be attending that and will report later.

Re: 14 minute psr s950 demo - 10/08/12 01:17 PM

I just listened to this demo and then went over to my 950..........If this is a 950 it has to be playing just standard GM sound bank! A 950 would be using superarticulation guitars where you would be hearing all the nuances of a real guitar and the drum set snare I hear is this demo sounds like the old Yamaha keyboards with to much compression and not the "real drum" kit used in almost all the 950 styles. It sure doesn't sound like my 950!

Re: 14 minute psr s950 demo - 10/08/12 01:20 PM

I have a 950 in my store and this demo doesn't even come close to sounding like a 950. Drum sounds are weak and the guitar parts couldn't possibly be using the new kits in the 950. If it is played on a 950 it sounds like it's only using the old XG voices and nothing else!
I'm telling you..............don't think this demo is a true picture of what the 950 sounds like...........it's not even close to what is so good about it.

I apologize you had to read 2 posts from me. I thought the first one didn't get submitted.

I agree George...not a 950, and maybe not even a 910. I think the video maker had the 9 upside down, and it's a 650. smile...A Korg conspiracy?

the demos Impuls provided us with are the real thing! Notice the live cymbals, the guitar voices with all the SA characteristics.

Phew! smile Thank you Impuls.

The real thing had to sound a lot better than the one posted initially. George, I `m sure you will be selling a lot of these.. Good Luck !!

Re: 14 minute psr s950 demo - 10/08/12 05:29 PM

I hate to say this? or maybe im happy to say this... but so far from these demos - the S950 is sounding wayyy better than the Tyros 4.

Its punchier / more live / more realistic!!
Those drums and distortion guitars are phenomenal!

the only big drawback still holding me back is the shallow mushy keybed, But I think the good outways the bad here!! and its half the price of the T4!!!

Re: 14 minute psr s950 demo - 10/08/12 08:34 PM

The demos do sound wonderful, but demos always sound great. Still, the Audio Drum styles sound superior to styles without audio drums. That Retro R&B style sounded out of this world. It sounds really vintage.

I would imagine that the non-Audio Drum styles sound more like the T3 and T4 - unless some these other styles take advantage of the new distortion DSPs.

Price (and internal speakers) not being a factor, I would definitely choose a T4 over this board, but I'm still encouraged as a future buyer by these demos.

We certainly agree here, Larry. If I thought I could get the same performance as a Tyros4 with the substantially less expensive S950, I would be selling my T4, buying the S950, and pocketing the difference.

However, having so many excellent (and very useful) SA2/SA1 voices, the new drum kits (and, like Audio Drums, the MIDI drums are also samples; only individual), plus the nicer feeling keyboard (subjective/personal) with aftertouch, and 500 styles with oodles of Premium Styles available, still makes the T4 the sonic leader in the Yamaha stable in my opinion. I played and heard the S950, so I am speaking from some experience.

But, the S950 is definitely a must have if you are wanting to keep things a bit less expensive, and, in your case, be able to purchase two instruments, thus having a backup, a wise move, especially, since you play so often. Plus, the benefits will include the VH-2 Harmonizer and some really useful additional SA Voices, along with the aforementioned Audio drum styles.

Ian, you and I posted almost exactly the same thing in two different threads, at about the same time!
Great minds think alike, for sure. smile
