Something sounds like its being strangled Nedim!

That’s not music as we know it, let’s listen to the MS all day Nedim, much better, at the start of the video 32 sec in you looked like you were in pain.

Just having fun LOL.

Re: Just having Fun! - 12/05/11 06:35 AM

Not usually my kind of music either, but hauntingly beautiful in its own way. Some more ethereal pads and a touch more reverb would really have given it a more mystical quality. Nedim, thanks for that.

Imagine Korg or Yamaha having this kind of sounds..SA2 or DNC does't come even close to this level of sound.

Re: Just having Fun! - 12/06/11 10:10 AM

I didn't realize it was a Sax sound...it seemed more like an oboe to me.

A wind player needs to breathe between phrases...just sayin'.

Otherwise, nice noodlin' Nedim.

Re: Just having Fun! - 12/06/11 01:09 PM

Ofcourse it is sax. It was just played oriental style and it sounds really good especially being played from keyboard.
I agree that it misses some stuff, but that is from player's perspective.
I still believe Nedim did really good job .
Do not want to be a bad guy, but first do a research before commenting on a piece of music. And go to samplemodelling page and you'll see it is the best there is for sax, trombone, and trumpet kind of sound. You can do whatever you want with it.Like I said, it's up to the player.

Re: Just having Fun! - 12/06/11 01:17 PM

Yes, Nedim did a pretty good job, but he didn't phrase the instrument as a "real" sax should be played, hence the slight criticism.

At the level of Tyros4, PA3X and Kronos, the overall impression of a Sax sound is very subjective, and really down to personal taste.

The only problem I have with the Kronos, is that it is not an arranger.

Re: Just having Fun! - 12/06/11 04:24 PM

Ian is right, i did it on purpose keeping the Volume up but hands
down of course, this is the BEST SAX in the world as of now, there
is nothing else that beats it, SA2 and DNC are toyish compared to
this kind of control and expression...by the way this is not my
opinion, it is the opinion of 101 out of 100 Mr Sax T users.
As for Yammy and Korg...give it another 10 years they will get close.

Really Nedim? I sure wouldn't think that after hearing your demo...you've got to play with the same expressions that a real sax player would use in order to make it convincing.

I thought it sounded more like an oboe mixed with a clarinet.

Are there any other demos of the Mr Sax that we can listen to that sound more realistic?

Ian

PS...You obviously haven't spent any time with Yamaha's SA2 sax voices...they blow away (pun intended) that reedy old sound you used. wink

Re: Just having Fun! - 12/06/11 06:11 PM

You can not compare sa2 to mr sax.Like Nedim said Yamaha or Korg are at least 10 years behind.I also think there is no reason for Korg or Yamaha or any other brand not to have these kind of voices.Check oriental players how they play sax, the way it sounds and you will see how close Nedim got.And MR SAX was made mostly for western music.Do some research before commenting. No one is bashing beloved T4,but comparing t4 sax to mr sax is childish.Go to samplemodelling.com and you will see.

It sure would be nice to hear a demo that actually showcased that sax sound.

as it was, Nedim's sax simulation didn't sound much like a sax to me at all...the sound itself was fairly close, but the technique didn't do it any favors, oriental style or not.

No one needs to do any "research" to make a simple comment that the demo doesn't sound very realistic...they just have to use their ears.

Real sax players take breaths between phrases, and the portamento slides being used sounded nothing like the way a sax player bends the notes.

If you think it sounds realistic, that's fine by me...but I don't.

A very good sax sound indeed....I like it very much, and the player used it to good advantage.

Do I like it more than the the Tyros4's Sax sounds (the T4 has several SA2/SA saxophones)?

Nope, but it is excellent, nonetheless.

As I said earlier, at this level of instruments, sound is more subjective and personal, rather than one being "better" than the other...also, the keyboard player's technique is a big part of it as well.

Like montunoman says, "It not the keyboard, it's the keyboardist."

Ian

PS...is the Mr.Sax sound on the Kronos when you buy it, or is it an additional expense?

Whoops, my mistake..I just realized this is a totally seperate product from the Kronos, and Korg itself, for that matter...and it sells for a retail price of EUR 119 (+ VAT, if applicable).

Not bad...not bad at all.

Mirza,

What Nedim did, wasn't a piece of music certain not music as I know it, I don't even think Nedim would admit to it being music, can you tell me why would you want to make a bendy sax sound, can you bend the notes on a real sax, up and down ??? perhaps a trombone. Also what instrument is Nedim trying to imitate that comes from the East. I can remember THE TORNADOS playing a Clavoline in TELSTAR, now I will bet the KRONOS would do that easily in the right hands, and don't forget you will have needed to have heard the Clavoline and when you have made up your Clavoline sample it will be subjective, someone will say "it sounds nothing like a Clavoline" Mirza its all subjective and assumes the listener has not lost part of his/her hearing range, my old mum if she were still alive would say "Nedim demo sounded like someone had stood on the cat". Her hearing had gone a bit !!

BTW Nedim did title the thread "JUST HAVING FUN" thats how I took it, not too serious.

Re: Just having Fun! - 12/07/11 05:54 AM

Well Tony i guess thats equals to: Your western music sux!
Now i am offended, not as a musician but discriminated.
You clearly state not as the music you know which means it is
discrimination...you clearly have NO CLUE about this music.
But i would'nt fall that low to say Western music sux even
if it really did...but no music suck.

Thanks

Re: Just having Fun! - 12/07/11 09:19 AM

Nedim,

I would not ever offend you Nedim, but this is music (see below), I thought you were "just having fun" and not making music, but merely programing sounds on the KRONOS.

Music is an art form whose medium is sound and silence. Its common elements are pitch (which governs melody and harmony), rhythm (and its associated concepts tempo, meter, and articulation), dynamics, and the sonic qualities of timbre and texture.

When you have finished having fun, please let us hear some of your music, we would love to, not just me.

Regards

Tony
