Have your been AMMYY.COM scammed - 05/18/11 11:23 AM

Hi all,

Have you had anyone from India ringing you saying they work for Microsoft and can fix all the bugs on your PC, either give them a pile of abuse or put the phone down, it's a scam world wide.

I put all telephone solicitors on hold--they rarely call back. Keep in mind that I've been on the Do Not Call List since it began, and I've updated it several times. When they get put on hold your name comes off the list pretty quick.

Another thing I've been doing lately, particularly with junk mail, is to send the entire package back to the sender in THEIR post-paid envelope. You would be amazed how fast your name comes off their mailing list.

Yeah, I'm gettin' crotchety in my old age! wink

Sending back the ads from other companies (especially competitors) in the post paid envelopes works wonders too.

I got one yesterday telling me I won a million dollars in some Face Book thing. They wanted similar details.

Of course, I didn't reply.

A buddy asked me what I'd do if I ever won a million dollars.

I told him I'd keep on playing music till I ran out of money.... wink

Ian,

If I won a $1M, I would have a new brain fitted, off a donor, one that hasn't been used, can you think of one! Now be careful what you say!!!

I teach an Internet research class at the college where I work. I used one of those Nigerian scams to instruct my class as to what a scam is. According to this scam I won the English Publishing Clearing House Lottery. I replied to the scam and keep stringing them along for about 4 weeks. They finally asked for money on the third contact. I kept them on the hook for another week and then told them they were a part of my class. I sent an email to Scotland Yard telling them about it and where they wanted me to wire the money. It was very entertaining. I told the scammers how much I needed the money and included gramatical errors just to make them think I'm not very bright. It was great fun. Scotland Yard said that even though I was to wire the money to England the scammers were probably elsewhere.
