If you are looking for a new mixer.....check...

Hello everyone:

I just began looking for a new mixer and couple active PA system as a 2nd PA.
I am very impress with the New Mackie ProFX12...just a mixer that has FX, 7 band stereo EQ and the first 4 channels have Inserts, USB....I think is a terrific value, lots of great features per dollar.

I am planning this purchase in a few months, right now I am completing the research.

So far, I am leaning toward the EV, but nothing is set in stone, currently I have been using for almost 4 years the ZX90 Passive speakers with the Yamaha EMX 312S/512S, I am very happy with the EVs, I have 2 pairs, never a problem with them and always reliable great sound and light, only 18Lbs each speaker, I use for larger rooms, all 4, they may lack a little on the low frequency, but then I use a Barbetta Sona SE41 to push the Low end, besides, the EVs have an 8' woofer, and sounds pretty good.

Anybody had some experience with any of this Systems in particular?

I have used a Mackie DFX12 for 8 years... "knock on wood" I've never had an issue.

When looking for new speakers a few months back, I listened to the QSC K10, EV ELX112P, and the RCF ART 310a. Bang for the buck, the RCF won on all fronts. I liked the QSC K10 second but it was a bunch more money. The EV was light but doesn't sound like the other boxes they make. I did like the ZXA1 800w but it didn't have enough low end to me. The RCF 310a was under $400 and I couldn't pass on it. I got my pair from Washington Music in MD. Ask for Nate in Pro-Audio.

mdorantes, I think those are all very good choices. The QSC is very popular at the "keyboard corner" forum.

I recently added a pair of Bose compacts and a small Yamaha mixer. I would still like to have some standard powered speaker too. The quest for new gear just never seems to end!

I have hear in live performance the QSC and is impressive it's quality and clarity of sound. I will go and listen to the RFC, and other systems. Time will tell.

I have the QSC K12's and they sound amazing. The K12 has more bass then the K10, and I don't need a sub. (K10s are lighter, but not much)
I only use these for larger jobs and school plays and such, but they are SO clean and smooth sounding. 1000 watts each .... lots of headroom.

What happened to your bose? thought it was the cats meow?

I still love my Bose Compact ... hate cats, though. The QSC's are for a more conventional setup where others are singing in my system and I have to really pump alot of bass. The Compact is on EVERY solo job I play, and so far, the only time I use the QSC's with my Mackie CFX12 mixer is for school.
I needed to have a reserve system for ...whatever comes up. The QSC is perfect for that.

I just listened to a customer's Yamaha Tyros 3 through a Bose L1 Compact. I liked it. My first synth speakers were a pair of Powered Bose Roommate speakers from 1987. I had my Yamaha DX100, Casio CZ-101 and Yamaha RX7 drum machine running through them. I don't think I'm ready to spend the dough for the Bose. I spent under $800 for the two RCF ART 310a speakers and they will work for most of the gigs I do.

I want to check out the HK Audio stuff vs the Bose. Interested in cost vs sound quality with the new Element Line Array system.

I'm a direct dealer for Mackie, FBT, RCF, HK Audio, and Yamaha. I also sell indirectly QSC, EV. It's very hard to put speakers in a best to worst list because everyone perceives sounds differently.

I have found that line arrays like Bose and HK Elements are more pleasing to me since the sound is evenly distributed with out major hot spots that convential speakers bring.

On the flip side, conventional format speakers have that ability for impact sound and a certain position, which I also desire.

As for powered speakers go, my opinion which I'm sure once you've heard as many as I have, FBT is probably the best sounding overall, with bass impact, hi freq, eqing, and portability, but that kind of quality and boutique sound is followed by a very high price tag, " you get what you pay for "

I also feel the RCFs ( of course depends on which series you are talking about ) QSC K-series, Yamaha DSRs are in the best of the mid to hi level speakers, rcf and qsc for their small footprint and great sound, the Yamaha DSRs are actually wood boxes with 2" horns that sound amazing, but have a bigger foot print.

I think Mackie needs to re-work their line, the Thump series for the money is great. but their other stuff is beaten by the above companies.

Hi Frank...Thanx for the reviews you know what your talking about... being a long time Mackie speaker user, now I enjoy the Mackie thump line myself ...sound & weight is excellent for the money....what does FBT make compatible in sound and weight in a 15" powered speaker? also as for bang for the buck my PODIUM powered 10" speakers are really doing a nice job.

FBT doesn't really have a plastic box speaker in the Thump price range, they do have a brand call Kempton which is FBT's China made version of a speakers, which are priced thump area but with a very well balanced sound.

Also look at the Allen & Heath Zed mixer, they are a step above the mackie stuff in sound and reliability in my opinion
