IMPORTANT FORUM NEWS - 12/29/10 12:27 AM

After 12 years the forum will be being upgraded to new software over the next couple of days. It will become a UBB Threads forum simply because this is the only system that was able to import the old forum. So ( all being well ) all old postings and membership records and passwords will be imported into the new system.

Hopefully all postings over the next couple of days will show up in the new forum, but you may want to keep a backup of anything you post just in case.

The new forum will provide security fixes ( which was my primary concern ) and also sticky posts and personal avatar pics plus other features that we will all find out about when the new forum is online.

So just be aware of this if there are any hiccups over the next couple of days.

Also the URL for the forum will definately change. I will post it when I have it on http://synthzone.com/bbsredir.html

Yep. Now we can just put up "mine is better than yours", "Yamaha has a processed, cd-like sound", "Korg has a more 'live' sound", "Audya has great latin styles - when it's working", "the G70 weighs a ton", "Donny's 'flavor of the day' MEETS HIS NEEDS", "it's the player, not the keyboard", "Dom (MS) puts up lousy demos", as stickys and save a lot of folks here a lot of repetitive posting, and newbies a lot of searching and browsing.

WOW Chas

you just made a summary that got it all, so the only thing needed to chat about
in the "new" board is the new board and the weather....

Appreciate the humour there, Chas, but take a look at the 'stickies' section on Korgforums - a lot of useful stuff in there.

Bebop, its the Schmidt House Santa was looking for!! Ah, I just thought you probably don't get what I'm trying to say. Short story Scott's card there's a photo of Santa stuck on the chimney of an out house while his reindeer are on the ground. Santa says something to the effect it's the Schmidt's House roof he wanted to land on.

Hi Bebop. True, and as I recall we both share the same birth 'day' too, albeit a number of years apart. No idea why you weren't able to open the card or why it crashed your PC?! Though I don't cite my email address in my sz member profile, I've included my website address , of which includes a ' contact ' page with email link, if anybody wants to email me.

The primary reason is due to server security problems with such an old script as this one. But it will be nice to also get the new features that come along with it.

Unfortunately not Rich. I looked at the link you gave me and vBulletin can't import this version of UBB Classic. And even the later version that it could import is also no longer supported. See http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php/367989-Importing-from-UBB-5.45c?highlight=ubb+classic

Sticky topics are designed to always stay on top of the topic overview. A sticky post (or sticky thread) is a feature of many online forum and bulletin board tools. This allows a post to be stuck or pinned to the top of the screen. If it wasn't pinned in this way then it would slowly be displaced by more recently posted items that are moved to the top to indicate activity. Generally, normal users can not create sticky topics, but moderators and administrators can.

Ah, too bad. Darn shame because vBulletin is a very powerful package, and pretty much a standard for message board systems.

But I feel your pain. All upgrades and server moves are a real pain in the butt.

Good luck!

Of course they will be Bill. I do not want stickies dominating the posting listings. And even when I do post stickies they usually won't be permanent.

Xmas/New Year has delayed this upgrade somewhat but it will be happening very soon.

As long as by then you've taken off the Xmas ornaments, Nigel. They usually get around doing that around July or August here in Taiwan. No kidding!

Don't need one Nedim, there is a "review" post prior to posing function now.

Personally I agree 100% with no editing. Means once you post its is there for all and sundry to see.

With the way my typos go, I am happy with a "review before post" option smile

I guess that would be when I changed it over from the script I first setup for Chris Hansen ... that is going back about 13 years now. Boy how time flies when your having fun. Haven't seen Chris for a few years now but he does pop back in from time to time. It was Chris that first got me to setup the General Arranger Forum.
