Tyros keys, Tyros users

does the Tyros have semi-weighted keys, or is it the same crap as found in my psr-3000 ?

I love the keyboard and I have to stick to Yamaha because of the 'chord-track', but I was wondering about an used Tyros 2 or 3

IMHO, Tyros 2,3, and 4 has got far better (more responsive) semi weighted synth key action compared to PSR3000. As much as I appreciate the high quality sound of Yamaha's mid range arrangers (PSR3000, S910, etc), I find the key action spongy and rather sluggish, especially when I want to play quick passages & runs.

That said, coming from being an acoustic pianist, no portable arranger keyboard approaches the feel of a fully weighted hammer action of an acoustic grand, but for arranger keyboard, I prefer the semi weighted responsive action of the Tyros 2,3, and 4, especially for emulating a full range of instrument sounds.

With the advent of super articulation voices, Yamaha has further improved the Tyros keyboard action which gives us the ability to better play & control key velocity pressure to activate the up to 7 levels of different sound variation of a single Super Articulation instrument's note. They are different for sure, not sure about "weighted"

The Tyros2/3 (and T4) use a new action, called FSX, which is different than the one in the original Tyros.

The S-910 and PSR-3000 use a much lighter action (which I prefer) and they also do not support aftertouch, which the Tyros does permit.

If you don't like the PSR action, then the FSX should be fine.

I come from piano background, I found it very uncomfortable to play my PSR 3000 or s900 series as a piano...........although Tyros 2 and 4 are far from a true piano action, I can actually play a bit of solo piano much easier using the Tyros keybed.

wow, thank you guys, I could not have hoped for better: real pianist who give me their impression. I am studying piano although unfortunately, like for many of us, having a real piano is very impractical.

I do have a fully weighted keyboard that I connect to my computer, but it so happens that I really like Yamaha arrangers and they keep me away from the computer (a good thing!) and focused entirely on making music.
I can't connect the weighted keyboard to the PSR easily because I play in a small room and have to arrange the keyboards in a certain way.

So learning that the Tyros has a far better, semi-weighted action, is really interesting,I think I'll go for an used Tyros 2.

Scottyee, yes I agree about the sounds, quite frankly I think right now Yamaha arrangers offer the best sounds, and I own 3 Eastwest libraries so I am not easily impressed!

Just a last question guys, the Tyros has a better keybed than the psr-910 too, yes?

I think I have heard about this FSX keyboard, if I am not mistaken, Yamaha uses it on the Motif workstation....if so, a Tyros 2 is the keyboard I have to get.

wow, I was just googling and the FSX keyboard is, indeed, the same keyboard as used on the Motif 76 !

got my Tyros 2 today

what a fantastic instrument, I am also impressed by the audio multitracker!

not to mention the styles and sounds, I have PC with some great sample libraries but what's still great about the hardware keyboards is that you can make music as soon as you get them out of the box and keep focused on the music for hours. Computers are the opposite of that.

And the keys are great, the only think I miss is the 76 keys keyboard for some piano pieces. Other than that, the Tyros 2 is a fantastic instrument. I know it's not the latest model but it's still a fantastic instrument and a significant upgrade from the PSR3000, although it grew on me.
