Thanksgiving tunes? - 11/15/10 11:24 AM

I'm playing a "Thanksgiving" luncheon at a senior center - not a NH - ... do any of you play "Thanksgiving" themed songs?
thnx,

I was going to post the same question. I'm doing a similar gig too.

Also I was wondering if it would be too early to play some Christmas music?

George Winston's " Thanksgiving " makes a nice background instrumental, and " Turkey In The Straw " a fun novelty to include for this crowd. - Scott

For Thanksgiving, I prefer reserving the xmas tunes till after turkey day as I know there'll be plenty of time (even though I do love yuletide songs) to become burned out playing/hearing them, so focus on more autumn-winter seasonal tunes like:

Autumn In New York (Vernon Duke)
Autumn Leaves
Early Autumn (Johnny Mercer)
Moon Dance (Van Morrison)
Winter Wonderland
etc.

I'm also interested in what others here play for Thanksgiving too, as I too got some Thanksgiving gig events to play next week.

Man, Scottyee...Early Autumn and Autumn in New York...two of the classiest tunes of all time. Then add Moondance-one of my favorite "fun tunes"?

Now, that's CLASS!

Russ, I agree. Both songs are beautiful both melodically and harmonically, and open to such luscious chord substitutions too.

Autumn in NY - Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong

Early Autumn - Ella Fitzgerald

Thanks you Ella,

No doubt those are some great tunes ... I love "Autumn in New York" and Early Autumn, although those two are not part of my usual play list ...
While the others are tunes I play regularly, they are not quite the type I was looking for, although I will probably play them while lunch is being served ...

Anyone else? ...
thnx,

PS ... I'm planning to add "This Land is Your Land" and "God Bless the USA" to the playlist ...
