Reality Check - 10/19/10 11:50 AM

With all the posts about how good all the new hardware arrangers are I thought I would post a reality check. (And how you should always compare a keyboard sound/style)

Well, the styles are good and the sounds seem authentic, but the piano needs on board speakers and the drums aren't exactly "in your face" ... ...
... and does the piano REALLY need all those keys ?!?!? ... ...

Don't think I would use that as my standard.

If you don’t use real instruments, what do you use to compare sound accuracy?

Real instruments get played in a huge variety of fashions...

Just as there are great arranger players and not so great arranger players, and a great player on a less than great arranger is usually a happy listening experience, whereas the less than great player can make the best arranger sound awful, there are great real instrument players and not so great...

Sad thing is, basically, if you base your arranger expectations on listening to the BEST players playing the best acoustic instruments, you are ALWAYS going to be disappointed! And only working hard on your PLAYING, as opposed to agonizing over which arranger you play is going to have any significant chance of increasing your contentment with how you sound.

If you can't phrase a sax solo JUST like a sax player, having the 'best' sax sound is not going to help one tiny bit!
