SA2 voicess

With the comming of T4 everyone is talking again about some of those awesome SA2 voices.
(I adore those new strings and the SA2 Trombone)

Now i read some comments somewhere where someone was explaining that while the SA2 voices certainly sound great, the best part of these voices is the real time controll that makes them the easiest playable top knotch accoustic simmulations.

Now i have no real experience with either SA or SA2 voices, but is it true that they are so good playable compared to some of the better VST's that also use legato play and such?

I once played a PSR 900 pro that i loved, i traded it for a T1 but missed the 76 keys so much i could not live with only 61 keys. Thats still true.. So i never went back to Tyros.

And yes, i am as dutch as only dutch can be..

Most accustic VST simulations take me hours or days just to master the play of a single Virtuall accoustic instrument.

If you can play these SA2 voices straight out of the box then they are truly an awesome edition to an arranger.

Or are they more like easy to learn but hard to master?

Most acoustic VSTi's are designed around extensive flexibility and multiple options for the SA abilities. On the whole, they tend to get designed for studio use, where you can edit the control parameters after you have played the basic part. Hence, they can be made to sound (with work) quite fantastic. And STILL sound pretty good as you play them live.

But Yamaha's SA voices are designed with live play as their first and ONLY priority. Compared to a VSTi, they don't offer as many possibilities and articulations as the best VSTi's, but they are designed to be played LIVE, and very carefully crafted to be best at that ONE task...

If you are an editing guru, it's quite possible to massage the VSTi to be better than the SA sound for live use, but it's rare that they come out of the box as superbly designed for live play as Yamaha's voices are...

On the other hand, the CHOICE and range of VSTi articulated sounds is FAR beyond what Yamaha offer. It all depends on just what you are looking to do, IMO.

Don't fool yourself.....SA voices played in the wrong hands wihout good experienced chops will make you sound worse then no SA....
