Who Else played Taiwanese blues today?

Who Else played Taiwanese blues today? - 08/18/10 03:39 PM

That's exactly what I did. Had a recording session today for a Taiwanese artist. I played either B3 or accordion. A traditional Taiwanese song about rice harvesting, a Taiwanese blues song that I don't know what it was about, and 3 pieces in English. One of the strangest jobs I've had yet, but kind of cool in a way. The artist was a really nice older gentleman who spoke pretty decent English. His wife didn't know English so well so I didn't get to talk with her much. Ya just never know what kind of work is gonna find its way to you in this business.

Interesting since I've been calling Taiwan home since 1980.

Mind sharing his name with me?

Sorry, doesn't ring a bell. Kimbo isn't a Chinese name. More likely a nickname.

Does this help? I think his real name is Hu Defu

I did a little research on the net and found him. http://www.culture.tw/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1048&Itemid=157

Thanks, Rory. Yes, now I know.

I'm not a fan of Taiwanese songs and Mandarin pop but I don't mind listening to aboriginal folk songs.

I used to tutor Michelle Pan who is a famous singer in Taiwan:

Another student of mine was Linda Wong.

She's the daughter of Jimmy Wang Yu.

She was 12 or 13 at the time.

A very different but interesting credit to Rory's resume.

It really is becoming a small world, isn't it?

Interesting stuff! As usual I bet Rory "knocked it out of the park"!

Michelle or Linda?

Michelle Pan(we share the same family name) had her start singing in coffee shops and clubs down Kaoshiung South Taiwan).

Linda started out as a model...in Canada, if I'm not mistaken. She used to tell me that she wanted to be a doctor. Actually it was what her father wanted as he didn't want her to have a career in the music or movie business. She's also a very popular soap star in Hong Kong.
