My new Groove machine - 06/10/10 07:59 AM

I couldn't help it. The devil made me buy it. The deal was just too sweet and the thing is damn near mint. Oh well, I'll probably give it to my son after a bit, anyway.

It was on consignment and the guy made an offer I couldn't refuse.

chas

PS: Not a big fan of shaft drives but at the price I got it, well.........

Almost forgot. What has this got to do with music? I named it "Johnny Cash".

Isn't that bag a little small to carry the Nord C1?

Chas,

If one of the big three bring out a new new KB , bang goes any chances of that. Nice bike I can hear it throbbing now!

Good luck with it and don't fall off! You will never pick it up on your own if you do!

The dealer says it's to carry condoms, but I suspect that's just a marketing gimmick . Worked, though.

Yes, but there's only enough room for a weekend's worth...you need to get a trailer.

I guess I'm getting really old, but, if I had to replace my favorite bike right now-a Suzuki Savage-650 cc-352 lbs-27" seat height-single cyl-I'd get a Boulevard 40-the same bike, with only minor cosmetic changes-hasn't changed much in over 25 years.

It backfires, is rough as hell, has no gas gauge or trip meter-only goes 100 miles on a tank, but, man, is it neat on the curves and country roads. Terrible on the Interstate, but I don't plan to do that much long distance riding again.

My second choice would be a 750 cc Shadow. Is that what this one is? What year? How many miles?

Last Question: I'm little Russ, only 64 1/4 years old. Would you PLEASE adopt me?

(Hey, dad can I use the Shadow and the Nord tonite....PLEASE, PLEASE)?

Russ (gotta love 'em biker chicks) Lay

(Actually, my very favorite bike is a 56 three wheel Harley Knuckle buster, but that thing only runs when it wants to. I've owned it since I bought it from the Air Force in 1962. Rode it back from Victorville, California with an upright bass tied to the back in my young, dumb and horny days).

Russ, it's a 2004 Honda Shadow Sabre (VT1100C2) with only 3900 mi. (by a little old lady who only drove it to Sunday School - the dealer swears to it ). It's really mint. It's heavy - @575lbs. but a reasonably low center of gravity - good for old folks who can't lift their legs high . I got it at a price that would make you cry (with jealosy) if you were in the market for one. I probably won't keep it.........although I am a pack rat. Nice bike, but no Aprilia.

I was looking at a Yamaha, but when I revved it up, it sounded too 'processed' .

Sorry Ian, I just couldn't resist.

Silly question for bikers, Tony. Yep, they're called 'pipes' . As for riding safe, don't worry. With a replacement hip, I'm VERY careful. Besides, although torque-y, it has a very modest top end. Did I mention that I got my first Harley '74' when I was 16 or 17? and I've owned @ 18 bikes since then. I also have an electric moped, a gas moped, and a Honda Elite scooter. My next 'bike' will probably be from 'The Scooter Store', but only if Medicare approves it .

chas

PS: Actually, what I really want (at my age) is a Can-Am Spyder, but at 23,000, it may have to wait until after my wife passes (oh, shut up, that was a joke) .

Ooohh wow chas.
Man that's beautiful. I'd love to take that for a good spin myself.

My first bit of freedom was a Honda 50 at the age of 17 and I went through a few bikes until I got my first car. It's just not the same though, the freedom you have on a bike... oh man... I miss those days.

Hey... Enjoy that beautiful machine.

Settle down James we don't want you getting any daft ideas until you have finished MS, no early departure for you my lad! You stick to 4 wheels, far steadier at your age.

Cheers keep smiling

lol.... It's not a bike that would kill me, it's my darling wife if I turned up on a bike. She doesn't have fond memories like I do. Back when we were dating I crashed with her on the back at 60 miles and hour. I went one way on my ass, she went another with the bike on top of her. Nobody seriously hurt though. Just extremely sore for a few weeks.

Generally speaking bikes are very safe. It's the idiots driving the cars that you need to worry about. That's how most people on bikes get hurt.

Cheers
James

Re: My new Groove machine - 06/11/10 07:44 AM

My left hand makes riding anything with a clutch difficult. At the office, I keep a small 150 cc Kymco scooter. It will do 60 mph tops, has a windshield and an extra carry box on the back and is automatic. It's great to run around town on. You can park in alleys, beside buildings, etc.

Several manufacturers make bigger ones. Kymco is a big company in Taiwan. Sym is the other. They make a good portion of the best two wheelers in the world. The biggest engine SYM makes is a 250cc. It has an 80 plus MPH top end but is a little sluggish on the take-off. Kymco makes a 500 cc. I tried the SYM out yesterday and will try the Kymco out this week-end.

Only thing: It's really HARD to be cool on a motor scooter! That is unless it's one of the older restored Cushmans I have.

Russ, I keep a couple of bikes around for my bike-riding musician friends who may stop by for a visit.

For my ORGAN playing friends:

For my ARRANGER playing friends:

For my YAMAHA arranger playing friends:

Considering you are a closet Tyros2 arranger player, the last one is especially poignant.

Must look cool lashed to the back of the Shadow in case the latter falls over...

Re: My new Groove machine - 06/12/10 02:04 PM

Pretty funny! I like the Shadow-because cruisers have always been my favorites, but the others you posted a while back were cool, too!
