Unable to watch YouTube Videos in FireFox 3.6 Anymore !

Unable to watch YouTube Videos in FireFox 3.6 Anymore ! - 03/14/10 12:29 PM

For whatever reason, I'm suddenly no longer able to watch YouTube Videos in Firefox 3.6 (I keep getting the following messsage in the YouTube viewing screen: "An error occurred, try again later", yet YouTube videos all play fine if watched via Internet Explorer 8. The FireFox YouTube error message continued on for several days, so I removed FireFox and reinstalled the latest version of FireFox, but the problem continues to persist. I even removed all FireFox temporary cache files and cookies hoping it might solve the problem. No dice.

Interestingly enough, videos on these other video sponsored sites play fine in Firefox:
http://video.yahoo.com http://www.metacafe.com http://www.dailymotion.com

Anybody else experience anything like this, or got a solution to the problem?

Thanks, Scott

Good advice - clear your cache completely and restart. It might be worth using ccleaner.

Hi Scott
Have you loaded any new Firefox plug-ins recently (Or have any been upgraded) as there may be a conflict.
BTW: A fault like this can occur in any browser that accepts plug-ins.

I just had the exact same problem with Google Chrome so had to keep going back to Internet Explorer - after a week of that, it's just come right on it's own so I'm no wiser as to the cause.

Though I (thought) I had removed all history, cookies and cache previously, I went back again this time and used FireFox's:

Tools > Clear Recent History > Clear Now

but this time, made sure to check ALL the options:

* Browsing & Download History
* Forms & Search History
* Cookies
* Cache
* Active Logins
* Site Preferences

Bingo, I'm back watching YouTube on Firefox again. Thanks to everyone for your helpful replies.

Couldn't you have tried those one at a time, though, Scott? Getting rid of all your cookies can often have major results on sites you have customized. Preferences, passwords, log-ins, whatever...

By doing the whole schmeer, you haven't really tracked down what it actually was...

I do understand what you are saying but sometimes that can be hard ( even impossible ) to do. So you do what it takes just to get things functional again.

When things get weird with cookies deposited by websites, and cleaning them out sorts out problems knowing what it was about the errant cookie isn't something I need to know.

Safari is the same as Firefox - and you have to keep the cache clear otherwise flash players stop working. Internet explorer always seems to work for some reason.

I use Firefox by the way, but clear it out every day or so useing ccleaner.

In Firefox preferences you can make it clean out cookies etc automaticly at shutdown of the program.

Hi Gunnar
Thanks for the links and info. Since Explorer is not now the default browser in windows in europe it has made me look for other alternatives to try for windows 7
