Bose L1 Compact - 10/25/09 01:13 PM

Hi All,

I am planning to buy 2 L1 compacts for our church. But would like to have more bass. Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance for all your valuable inputs.

Get a powered sub; you can run it out of the stereo outs of one of the compacts. Bose B1 subs wont wire up easily. I have an EV SX 120b. I've also seen guys use a regular powered speaker.

I am planning to connect 2 L1s in Stereo, so by connecting to 1 L1, I may not be able to get complete output signals. Anyone uses 2 powered subwoofers in stereo?

You could use two powered subwoofers OR you could use one and connect L and R Lines to it.

But first I would recommend that you get the two Bose Compacts, set them up and try them before even deciding that you "need" the subwoofer. You may not need one.

They do sell a Bass expansion kit.

Actually scratch that idea, that kit is for the original L1's and not the compact version.

I don't think they do it in a Compact version.

As Mac said, try using just a pair of L1 Compacts and evaluate the overall sound before thinking about a pair of powered subs.

Additionally, Bose also sells systems for churches, theaters and large halls that is a permanent installation. I don't know the size of your church, but this may be something else to consider. Call Bose and they can provide you with the particulars on these systems.

Good Luck,

Thought I might add that in my experience venues where you are surrounded by hard surfaces, the low frequency sounds from the L1 Compact tend to become somewhat overpowering. This has been especially true with the system was positioned relatively close to the wall. Under those circumstances I've had to back off on the keyboard's low EQ settings.

Good Luck,

Gary

Gary I'll echo that one. I play a venue where they have me set up near the kitchen doors. The dish washer is right behind the wall I'm set up next too. The Bose picks up on the hum from the dishwasher. When the kitchen doors are open, it's really bad. I have to back down the lower frequencies to next to nothing to compensate. Next time there I'll see if I can set up someplace else.

For those who have Compacts, you know that there is virtually only one way to set up an additional speaker/sub. My guess is the rest of you are just guessing. The Compact is a very simple in/out PA with very few (but useful) options.

I think we need to clarify if Shiju is going for two Compacts or two L1. He said two different things in two posts. The L1's, obviously, can have many B1 subs added to them. Compacts are restricted to a stereo RCA out. B-1 subs are not compatible with Compacts.

Thank you all for the replies. The church is approax. a 4,000 sq.ft area. Max seating is around 300-400. But the budget is very limited (around $4000.00). I think we'll try the L1's without the subwoofers first.

Shiju,

Keep in mind the standard L1 REQUIRES an external sub in order to provide low frequency sounds. The L1 Compact DOES NOT require an external sub.

Good Luck,

Gary

Unbelievable sound quality!! Today we'd tried our L1 Compact live for the first time.

Thank you all for your honest reviews on Synthzone…
