How many keyboards ? - 08/29/09 12:27 AM
Yesterday i was at a party, and there was a one man band entertaining... the girl (yes she was)didn't look very prety but her music actually rocked big time.
But she was using 3 keyboards in her set-up. Yamaha S90ES, Korg PA1X, Roland V-synth. and 3 rackmount modules.
Now i have seen a lot of entertainers that use 2 keyboards on stage but its been a long time ago (Analogue age) since i saw someone using 3.
How many do you people use?

Just the one, live...
If I had the back for it, I might drag my K2500 along for a super first call gig (if they got roadies
) as well as the G70, otherwise...

I use 3 on some occasional gigs but mostly 2...on the 3 Key's setup I use a
Roland FP4 Piano, Yamaha S900 and and an Evolution MC-461c controler running Native Insrtuments B4.
Used to use 4 keyboards years ago and I mean 'years ago'...you can tell the age by what I was using....anybody guess what period in time it was ?
Fender Rhodes 73 Mk2
Clavinet D6
Korg 700s Synth
Logan String Melody

The most i've used is 7 Keyboards at the same time, i mean around me and used all of them.
I used them few times like that but i usually never play with less then 4 Keyboards. Its mostly a
PA arranger, Prophecy always there and there is always a Motif or Triton/M3 with Casio CZ101.
And thats how most of us play our music.

One. Nord C1. Sometimes I drag the pedals (PK7a) along, but usually not. Tried triggering a SonicCell from the lower manual, but the Nord makes a lousy controller. A live guitarist sounds a lot better anyway. Limits the types of gigs you can do but at this stage of my life, that's a good thing.

I use now 2 keyboards, the T3 and a PA500, years ago, Hammond X66, Prophet 5, Roland synth(Dont remember the model), Korg KR55a & KR55b, when I did not have a drummer.
I change several units as time went by, among them some synths too.
Korg Poly 61, Roland E 20, Pro E, etc.

The more i think about it, the more i am impressed by this ladies setup...
But the thing that really caught me, was the Roland V-synth, she seemed like to have an incredible controll over her solo's using all the controllers like Dbeam and v-link...
I think a solo synth like V-synth could add a lot to a setup consisting out of arranger and V-synth.

That V-Synth is a beast! Especially the GT version.

Too bad she wasn't pretty...then it would have been a 10 performance!

124, Diki
Well your spot on with the dates when these insrtuments would have hit the market but in those days they hung around much longer, unfortunately ( or luckily ) I was still a non-earning school boy with poor parents in the early 70's and just used to dream about owning these instruments, it was only until I got a well paid job in 1979 that I got the Rhodes and then the Logan in 1980, Clavinet and the Korg 700s mono synth in 1981...1982 I moved over to a Whurly EP200a and a Korg Poly6 and a Roland Juno 6....oh happy daze..!

From what I've seen of most SZ members' pictures, it's a good job that, unlike Bachus, most of our audiences don't really CARE whether we are 'pretty' or not!

Diki, you got that right. I always thought I wes better cut out for radio than TV, if you get my drift.
Pasadoble: I guessed at 1973 as that was when I got my first synth, a Micromoog. I was using that perched atop a well roadworn M102 up until 1980. Actually I still have that old Moog - never play it these days, though.

I use multiple keyboards when at all possible. I love to use my C-1 with a synth on top and a digital piano on my right hand.
When I uase the B-3, I use a suitcase on my right hand and either an old Korg Micro or a DX-7 on the top....complete "old school".
Even on my arranger jobs now, I use a controller and old Yamaha tone generator over
an old MS-60.
When I start to use my SD-5, I'll have the GW-7 on my right hand and my Hammond Melodica resting on the top.
Haven't figured out what I'm going to do with the Midjay, but may use it with bass pedals and a double neck guitar. Always have two jobs Friday and Saturday, and use different set-ups for each.
Hard to change old ways,
Russ
