OT - James Burton's Shreveport show - 08/23/09 04:52 PM

This has not one thing to do with arrangers, it's guitars. I'm sorry, but we need something positive on this forum. But, they had two keyboard players and one had a B3!

I went to the James Burton International Guitar Festival Show last night or whatever it's kalled. (I have two keys on this keyboard that don't work... sorry!) They've had four over the past few years and I've been to four. It was fabulous, just totally awesome. I don't give standing ovations for the hek of it but I did several last night. Wow, wow, wow, world klass players are so dang good! I saw Konrad there with his babe, haha, I keep kalling her that, I think it is Judy? Konrad (sorry again for the spelling!) is the lokal union bigshot. We were seated side by side.

I tell ya, I'm not a religious person but I used to be. Brought up a Southern Baptist, fire and brimstone and all of that. Doyle Dykes, let me tell ya... everytime I have seen this guy... I am BLOWN AWAY by his talent. In the past, he has been too over the top with religion but he was not last night. There are a few players I am in awe of and he is one of them. Last night, he played The Lord's Prayer and wow, unbelievable. I have never heard anything so beautiful.

Doyle Dykes tours about 24/7 for Taylor Guitars. If this guy doesn't make a million a year, he should. I have never in my life heard sound like this. Well, I have... when he played before. Anyway, not only is it his skill but my gosh, the sound is unbelievable. And this is in a big auditorium where the sound is tough to get right! It makes me wonder what kind of setup he has.

Doyle Dykes is not human. How anyone plays like this is beyond me!

I guess I should find a link. http://www.jamesburtonmusic.com/

It was a thrill to hear Albert Lee and Junior Brown. Sheesh! And all of these people are fab!

If you have never heard of some of these, it doesn't mean you have not heard their musik. Every year, James gets these inkredible players!

Viva la musik! I guess the point is, if you have an opp to hear world klass players, go!

Oh heck yeah, Tommy Emmanuel is one of the top 5 guitarists in the world in my book. Probably top 3.

Hey Russ,

Scotty is also a very nice fellow. I'm lucky that he lives right here in my hometown.

Tommy Emannuel is indeed a wonder. In my opinion, Brian is a good player and showman, but not in the same league. I think our own Rory Hoffman is as good or better, musically.

I like him, though.

Having grown up in Australia I have heard Tommy play a lot. He is an awesome guitar player. And not too surprising is the fact that his brother Phil is just as good a player. Here they are playing together. Phenomenal stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dO3kpSppB6k

And I fully agree that Rory is also a fantastic talent. I have shown quite a few people I know the clips of Rory playing and their jaws just drop. It is musical entertainment and performance at its very best.
