A little Help with Songs and Styles Needed

A little Help with Songs and Styles Needed - 07/24/09 10:51 AM

Last month I was asked to play a Jewish song at one of my regular gig venues. I did not know the song but did learn it and returned the next week with that song plus a second one(Hatakvah). Well, let me tell you the response was overwhelming - thunderous standing ovation after the second song.

Now, two days later I get a call from the AD wanting to know if I could play a Jewish program on a weekly basis and my fee would be doubled. The problem is that I have no idea what "Traditional Jewish" music is or where to find it let alone finding authentic styles for the songs.

If anyone can help I would appreciate it a lot. I am actually excited about the opportunity to expand my horizons and provide some truly enjoyable music for them.

Hammer, try this site: http://www.jewishmusic.com/index.asp
Also, I would suggest you contact a local synagogue and seek direction there. There may very well be a cantor or rabbi who can give you some good ideas.
