Upgrade - 07/18/09 06:21 AM

The question for me... is it now time to upgrade from my psr3000?

No, your 4.3 days late

All joking aside, you need to ask yourself why you feel the need to upgrade. Do you feel restricted and want to do more than your current keyboard allows. Can you afford to upgrade, and what benefit will the upgrade be to you.

If you ask yourself questions like that, you will know if your ready to upgrade or not. Summer Namm 09 has to be easily the worst on record for new releases so now is actually a good time to buy as there's not going to be anything new any time soon.

James - long time no read. Glad to see you're still here. Take one of those Korgs and play us a song, Masquerade would be good...

Jenkins - if you're asking because your pockets are burning, then you already have your answer. If you're asking because you feel the 3K no longer suits your needs, then look at the new s910 and Korg PA500/800 - they seem to be the hot boards right now. I'm mostly a Roland guy, but there's nothing new out there right now except the e80 behemoth. I just bought my second 3K and feel the sounds are still cutting edge; the keybed could b a lot better. So if you're asking because you think the 3K is out of date, there's really no need to update... unless you feel you WANT to.

As a former psr3k user, I use the Tyros 2 and am very, very pleased...

It uses the same operating system as the 3k does, so the learning curve is rather quick...

Thanks for the info. Looking forward to reviews on the s910 down the road.

Thanks again.

Just read an S900 review, add in a few SA2 voices and a bit better display, you've probably pretty much got it

My take would be that those SA/SA2 voices are WELL worth the upgrade at this point. They are, IMO, the main reason Yamaha rule the roost in those mid-price arranger markets...

To be honest, this one (S910) is starting to get my juices flowing. It might be time for me, at least for my home studio, to add in those Mega guitar patterns and SA/SA2 voices to my palette...

I am still unconvinced I could integrate the G70 and the Yamaha sufficient for it not to be a major PITA on a live gig, but those Mega and SA voices keep beckoning...
