As far as the Audya goes only bad news for now...please no questions for clarification.

maybe the bad news for the AUDYA is that
the AUDYA2 is coming out to replace it ???

Re: It's Coming! - 07/08/09 08:36 AM

LeeZone,

I have heard that there is a TYROS 4 coming,
full size keyboard, not in plastic in a metal case, an Audya look a like, semi weighted keys blah blah blah.
Posted by: leezone

Re: It's Coming! - 07/08/09 10:50 AM

an AUDYA lookalike?

but will it be an AUDYA soundalike?
with it's realistic sounding drums?

It's here. But I have to go to work without it. Too much setting up to do.
I'm going on a mini-vacation this weekend so won't be able to do much with it until next week some time.

LeeZone,

No it won't sound the same as the Tyros 3,
the T3 is made out of of plastic and has the little PC speakers on the top, it's a toy.

Doh!!! Boom !!!

Wicked, Tony...you have just accurately described the collective sound of the competitor's chins hitting the floor, immediately after hearing the jaw-dropping sounds of the Tyros3.

Thank you, sir.

Ian, if it said Yamaha on it, you would be praising it to no end.
Fortunately all the top end arrangers, and even the mid-range ones, sound fantastic these days. If Yamaha had on option for live sounding drums and a decent vocal harmonizer they could put a few companies out of business.
... but they don't.

First of all, Don, my comment was in response to Tony's needlessly insulting remark, and not aimed at you, the Audya, or the rest of this thread...but, now that you're here...

Even if it was a Yamaha we/you were discussing, until I've heard the audio guitars in action and playing the complex chords that most experienced players would use, it's still in the Beta stage, in my opinion, and that of several others on this forum, as well.

That's not an insult to the Audya...it is just something that hasn't really been demonstrated clearly enough for anyone wondering about it's performance to make an informed opinion.

I'm not going to buy one, anymore than I'm going to buy a Toyota, being a Honda man myself, but that doesn't mean I can't have any interest in something that is new or groundbreaking, which the Audya allegedly is.

So, when you have the time, why not showcase the audio guitars...maybe even get in on the E-Jam...I'd like to hear it in action, by a pro such as yourself?

Re: It's Coming! - 07/10/09 09:54 AM

It's most likely gonna be a WHILE before I get it set up to my liking, but as you know, I'm not bashful about posting songs.
I've actually been VERY happy with the lowly little Roland E50.
So far I have not updated the Audya to the latest OS. I've just turned it on and played a couple of hours through headphones.
It doesn't follow the chords properly, whether audio or midi, but I understand the new OS addressed that. We'll see, but it will be at least the middle of next week before I get to it, because we're going on a little mini-vacation today through Monday.
Ian, I didn't mean to sound nasty. Didn't you see the tongue in my cheek?

I can relate to that, Don...the MOTL arrangers are very competitive with the TOTL models...I feel the same way about my S900.

I played an E-50 and E-60...great instruments...said with absolutely no tongue-in-cheekiness.

Re: It's Coming! - 07/10/09 10:59 AM

Looking forward to hearing it in your hands, Don.

Just for the record, could you elaborate a little more about it not following chords in MIDI and audio? Is it a sync issue with the two, or is it deeper than that?

Sincerely,
Drew Brees.

Diki,
I'll wait until I get the OS loaded to comment. I'm already "on the road again" and won't be back until Tuesday.

That's just amazing. It doesn't follow chords properly? How does a company release an arranger that doesn't even do the basic function of an arranger? I don't get that, unless I'm missing something here.

Maybe you should ask Domenick of Lionstrac for the answer.

Just kidding Dom! The Mediastation follows the chords okay right? It's just lacking in overall quality of the factory Styles it has on it correct?

>> Is it any wonder Ketron and Lionstrac are little known companies with little known products? It's because the products they make can't seem to compete with the big boys as far as full functionality in the prodoucts that they do happen to make. And who's fault is that?? Why.. the little known companies with the little known products of course.

Hopefully the OS update will correct this inauspicious malady currently afflicting the Audya. Although I have my doubts... Stay tuned to find out.

All the best,
Mike

Hey Mike..My MediaStation is working great..It plays chord changes as well as any other arranger keyboard..I use the LiveStyler program that is interfaced with the MS control surface...I use the Tyros styles with the Yamaha VST (not the old little XG file from years ago)..It sounds every bit as good to me as the Yamaha XG arranger section of todays boards..

As I use the arranger sparringly..I have more than I need..

Here is some food for thought about this unknown company...My MS has the B4II organ, the Steinway Piano and a Rhodes VST that kicks butt with all the controls found on the old EP,s...People are buying the Nord Stage piano..and The MS with this setup is far better ..All 3 of the sources B4II, Steinway and Rhodes are superior to the Nord Stage...and the MS has better control too..

At the same price point as the Nord...you have the arranger, VST control, sampler, audio recording, sequencing, Audio playback and editing..etc...It starts to become a no brainer in value..compared to the Nord stage..or in fact any other keyboard in it's price range..

As for these companies folding tent..as you mentioned in previous posts...not even close..
Look for exciting news in the next couple months from Lionstracs..and also Ketron...you know..the companies unknown to so many..except people that can afford and appreciate them....

Re: It's Coming! - 07/11/09 02:02 PM

Guys, please don't jump to any conclusions until I get back and have a chance to spend some time with it.
All I did was turn it on, listen to some sounds, pick a few styles and play with them.
I didn't even check to see what chord mode was set. I shouldn't have commented on the chords prematurely.
Later,

Don,

You mean to tell me that out of the four chords that you know, it didn't get them correct? I guess you'll have to drop country and just play western.

Well, it's still coming. I noticed some slight damage from shipping, and Ketron is shipping a new one out today.
Meanwhile, I'll experiment some with it today before UPS picks this one up.

Re: It's Coming! - 07/21/09 09:21 AM

Update:
The first Audya I received had a problem, probably caused by shipping. A few of the keys "clunked" when released. It was mechanical and didn't affect the sound or operation.
Anyway, I received a replacement immediately and then returned the first one.
This one has no problems. I have not had time to fully set it up, but I started on it yesterday and since it is raining today and I don't like to play golf or fish in the rain, I will spend the rest of today with it.
I can tell you that the OS is much improved. The update was simple, and the new styles were easily loaded. They appear as factory styles.
You can plug it into the PC via USB and it appears as another drive. It also quickly recognizes pen drives and will play midi files directly from them. I haven't tried MP3s or styles from external.
The mic processor and vocal harmonizer are much improved over SD models, and much easier to edit and adjust.
As with previous models, it's easy to change voices, levels, effects, etc on styles and save them.
There's a new registration feature that allows for sub-registrations. You can have a Registration Block containing either multiple single registration, or multiple settings (such as lyrics, various sounds, tempo changes, mic settings--anything the kb will do. I can see myself setting, for example, a Rock-n-roll Registration, with instant access to preferred guitar, piano, organ and sax voices, with or without second sound, and with or without two rh voices with a secondary split without ever leaving that screen. Many other possibilities make this a really powerful feature, at least for me.
I will next load my collection of MP3s to the hard drive, to play on breaks. Not certain how I will set up text files. They can easily be associated with registrations, but I already have them arranged in alphabetical folders (from the PSR900) on a pen drive, so I will created a folder on the hard drive and transfer all the text files to it for now. I can decide later if I want to link to registrations on a few of them. I don't look at the lyrics that much, but it's essential for requests that I haven't done in a long time.
Since I appear every night in the same place, it is very important to me to have a wide variety of styles and songs, so that I don't become too stale for the audience, and this kb will help greatly with that, because of the large variety of fresh styles, particularly in the RnR and Country genres.
I've only touched on a few of the many features at my disposal.
Of course there are a few things I dislike.
I have grown used to moving my left hand only one inch to access the joystick on the E50. The PB and MOD wheels on the Audya are about three inches above my left hand. Not quite as convenient.
It's heavier than I like to carry around, but I leave it in one place most of the time anyway. It does eliminate the need to carry and set up my laptop, MP3 player, recorder, vocal harmonizer and mixer.
All I have to do take is the Audya, Bose Compact (or two), and kb stand. My mic stand is attached to the kb stand. Quick and easy.
Regarding the sounds. I like most of them, especially the pianos and organs. I have grown really fond of a particular Roland guitar sound and there is nothing similar on the Audya. I'm hoping I will be able to edit something or load one. The standard Solidbody, Strat, Tele, Clean, and acoustics are fine. No built-in slides or gimmicks as Yamaha and Roland have--you have to do it yourself. Good news is that I didn't use them on the Yammys much anyway.
Regarding the much-discussed audio guitar fall-out: It does exist when you play aug or dim chords. As far as I can tell it plays everything else with no problems.
Most of the time it is not noticeable when actually performing. If you isolate just the audio guitar (killing drums, bass and other chords parts) you can hear it drop out or change to a midi guitar.
I would never use it that way, so that's not a major problem for me. I assume that sometime in the future they will address this. In the meantime, I will enjoy the many things it does right.
Once I get it all set up and in use, I'll record something.
Gotta get back to work.

Re: It's Coming! - 07/21/09 11:18 AM

I am afraid I wouldn't hold my breath for an upgrade to fix the audio chords problem, Don. I have a strong feeling that, if the hardware couldn't do it after such a lengthy development period, it is just not going to happen without a model change, a much faster processor and a faster data pipe....

DonM,

Congrats on your new AUDYA.

Guitars with built in slides (you've got to strike the key a little harder) include the new NYLON, SPANISH, JAZZ guitars ...
Give them a shot.

You can also load the new guitars from the HD under the Super Solo section to achieve this!!

Thanks,

AJ

Re: It's Coming! - 07/22/09 12:55 PM

Are there any voices that allow the slide to be triggered with a footswitch instead of velocity? I tend to not like the vel-triggered slides, as they ONLY pop out when the guitar is at it's loudest (real guitarists do hammer-ons quietly as well as loudly) and I find I often trigger them inadvertently when playing a strong line...

I kind of wish that more manufacturers would consider this.
Posted by: DonM

Re: It's Coming! - 07/22/09 01:32 PM

Dikki, it's not on the list of footswitch functions.
