I was reading your post in the thread about the 802's and you mentioned you did a "Serenade" in South Philly.
Being originally from Philly myself I did quite a few Serenades also, with my "cordeen"
The drummer usually brought his snare and hi-hat and the sax player brought his tenor.
I was really surprised that they still do that kind of thing there. We used to go to the brides house with the groom and at midnight we would start playing Let Me Call You Sweetheart. And then after the bride stuck her head out of her window and being totally surprised, the band and the rest of the people who were outside were invited in and we would continue the party in the brides house. Allot of fun.

You brought back allot of great memories with that one.

Sounds like a very similar Polish tradition in Detroit. The band would play on the porch or driveway as the bride and her maids got dressed at the bride's house. They would play until the party left for the church. Rarely seen anymore, but sometimes revived by sentimental boomers for their daughters.
