OT - Flip Video - 05/07/09 07:00 AM

I just discovered this very cool device (I know, I'm late). Seems like the way to go for sharing videos online. Anyone here have one?

My niece has one - loves it; great HD movies and pics, but everything is saved to internal memory for transfer by USB, so unless you have access to storage, filming time can be limited.

I bought one on the recommendation of Mikey. It's a nice piece of equipment. I bought the Ultra Model with 60 minutes record time. Found it on sale at Wal Mart for $119. plus tax. I believe Zuki just bought the HD model, that's priced at about $179.

If anyone is on the fence and needs to be pushed over or have questions about the software call me anytime. My phone is always on for synthzoners.

Re: OT - Flip Video - 05/07/09 03:16 PM

Does anyone know of a decent inexpensive camcorder like the Flip with direct audio ins?

I must confess, for a musician, the audio side of things ought to be one of the primary considerations. HD is all well and good, but only the video is HD. The audio is often still little better than a cassette. It's not that the format can't record it, it's just that most of these things have no way of recording audio than the horrible built-in mikes and crappy audio compression they put on it...

Surely we want to SOUND at least as good as we look (or a LOT better, in my case!)

Mikey and others... how is the picture quality on a large screen TV?

Re: OT - Flip Video - 05/07/09 03:38 PM

FlipHD... 720p. Pretty damn good, IMO.

I have a 50 inch lcd and was pleasantly surprised. It even comes with the special cable in the box. Looks like a 1/8" to a Y rca/ video

Re: OT - Flip Video - 05/07/09 07:04 PM

Yes, just purchased the Ultra HD and recorded myself live for the first 30 minutes tonight. The Flip did a great job, although.....

I hated my delivery, my singing and playing

I'll post on You Tube as soon as I get comfortable with myself

What a wonderful way to be humbled and correct things too.

Re: OT - Flip Video - 05/09/09 08:17 AM

Hey guys,

I just bought my mom a flip video ultra for mothers day from staples. The web site lists them for 129.99 however, when I got to the cashier it rang up at 89.99. What a score!!!

If anyone is looking for one I suggest getting to a staples and get one. If it's advertised for a higher price tell them in Fall River, MA it rang up at 89.99

I love mine

Re: OT - Flip Video - 06/03/09 08:03 AM

Interesting price structure: 13 new from $49.99 9 used from $43.99 1 refurbished from $59.47

Glenn...I got the Ultra HD 60 minute one and love it.

It uses AVI format and I have found the files are too big to email. Anyone have a solution such as a conversion program or other way to reduce to a mailable size?

Eddie can you post some your tube videos of your gigs?

Re: OT - Flip Video - 06/03/09 09:22 AM

Donny...
I just got the Flip while on a trip to NC two weeks ago. I have done some test videos with clips of buddies performing...but haven't found a way to attach them to mail or post them due to file size.

I'll see if I can, somehow, send you something in email using, what they call, FlipShare, where the video is stored on a server somewhere.

I'm still learning and can hear my hair turning gray.

Re: OT - Flip Video - 06/03/09 09:31 AM

Eddie but I thought that the flip video was supposed to convert easily to play on You Tube Formast with no problems like Mikey did isn't that why it's so popular?

Re: OT - Flip Video - 06/03/09 09:47 AM

Yes... Flipshare has a button to upload to a YouTube account. I did that for one of my buddies, but he wanted to save the file, which you can do if you have the right software to download a youtube file. My goal at the moment is to find a way to send a 'FILE' through email...not just a direct link to a 3rd party site.

BTW... you should be getting some email from me with a Flip soon....it is uploading now.

Rather than squeeze the bejeezus out of the video, and compromise it visually, why not use Yousendit and just email the link...

Re: OT - Flip Video - 06/04/09 11:12 AM

Kodal has a similar Zi6 HD camcorder selling around $119. Looks good to me and uses SD cards for add'l storage. http://blog.laptopmag.com/hands-on-with-kodaks-zi6-pocket-hd-camcorder

An excellent suggestion Diki, as long as the file is under 100MB or you don't mind paying the premium.

I had a 127MB file and tried storing it on http://www.transferbigfiles.com/
but couldn't get the upload to work.

A companion plug-in worked, but the upload took FOREVER and maxed out my CPU resources.

I tried a smaller file on YouTube...and that worked ok..but upload was also slow.

Still working on it.
