Now I have to hit the lottery.

Look at the guy in the video he can't believe he's there with his favorite player, his smile is Priceless. btw...
ACDC are definitly my all time favorite ROCKERS.....

Donny, Tony has been at all recent NAMM shows in the Hammond booth. He plays all day, and is totally accessible. On top of that, he plays evenings at a nearby club.

Summer NAMM is in Nashville. The only time I take off all year is Friday of that week. I go down Friday morning, stay the night and get back to Lexington in time for my 5:00 PM Saturday gig.

I know it took Dave about 10 hours to get to Lexington, but you could fly here and we could drive to Nashville together (About three hours). Generally, my oldest son goes with me. We are the guests of a former client, Q-Lighting, and an extra ticket would be no problem.

Tony was an acquaintence of my friend Winston Walls, another B-3 giant who passed away early last year. Tony is gracious and a passionate player and promoter for Hammond.

Something to think about...

If JayZ finds out about this, you may not even have six months .

BTW, Beyonce and JayZ pulled in 122 million last year so I'm wondering how much she's willing to part with for, what, 1/3 of $28,000. I'm guessing......peck on the cheek? No wonder your wife's not worried.

Different strokes, for sure. Some of us old "pickers" wouldn't even get out of a chair to meet old Angus.

And, as far as the ladies go, still like to "fire" at them, but would scare me to death if I actually connected with one who wasn't nearing Social Security age.

Fran met his ALL Time 50's/60's singing superstar recording artist Idol BRENDA LEE a few months ago at a nightclub he was peforming at with his group down the shore. During dinner with her before the show... he called me at my gig and put Brenda on the phone & I chatted for a minute or so with her....
very cool for sure!

Favorite musician? ... too many to name, but I guess if I had to it would be Oscar Peterson ...
BUT,... Lydia and I spent the weekend before last in Newport RI to celebrate our 45th wedding ann'y ....After dinner, we stopped at a club to hear Mac Chrupcala's jazz group - EXCELLENT - piano, bass, drums, http://cdbaby.com/cd/chrupcalatrio2 and a male vocalist, in the style of Mel Torme ... http://cdbaby.com/cd/porcella3
After a while, a guy sits in on piano ... he is playing some 'way out' stuff as a 'warm up' and I ask the bartender if she knew who it was ... she answered it's Mike Renzi ... http://www.artistdirect.com/nad/music/artist/credits/0,,484209,00.html
Mike was the piano player for Mel Torme for many years and has backed numerous top vocalists on their recordings ... After he played he sat and chatted with us a while ... nice guy, great night ...

I also met Dizzy Gillespie in Newport a few years ago ...

I've been thinking about this all day...Who would I pay that kind of money to spend 30 minutes with?

This is the best I can do:

Pop/Rock-Billy Joel, Elton John, Phil Collins, James Taylor and Kerry Livgren

Country-Vince Gill, John Denver

Jazz/Big Band-George Gershwin, George Shearing, Branford Marsalis and Ralph Sharon

Any would be a treat to visit with...

I guess my eclectic taste in music is out of the bag now, eh?

It's an insane topic, for sure...

Got $28,000 in mad money? How about $28,000 of lessons with a top pro? How about a Roland Atelier or a Wersi Scala (so you can get abacus off your back )?

How about spending it on following your idol around on tour for six months (instead of a mere 30 min )?

Might as well ask:

Would you pay $28,000 for.... the sun to come up in the west?
Would you pay $28,000 for.... the last Mars Bar on planet Earth?
Would you pay $28,000 for.... a used chicken hat from Donny?
Would you pay $28,000 for.... an arranger forum without dumb questions...?

Come to think of it, that last one MIGHT be money sell spent

Re: Would you pay $28,000 for 30min with your FAVORITE MUSICIAN?...& who would that be? - 11/25/08 05:58 PM

Bill these are all great choices, and we all have favorites.....BUT, we're talking ONE ALL TIME OBSESSED FAVORITE that would make you crap your pants to be with for a
1 on 1 hour together which will leave you with a memory the rest of your life !!!!!

Ps... remember dont think of it in your current financial status .....but instead as in the original video....if you had that kind of cash which most dont & wouldn't miss it at all it would be worth it for sure..life is too short to Dilly Dally

Maybe the question ought to be...

If you were a famous star, would you REALLY charge some poor sap $28k just to hang out with you for thirty minutes?

And what kind of a pr*ck would that make you?

Personally, I think there's a special place in hell for folks that exploit their fame like that...

Re: Would you pay $28,000 for 30min with your FAVORITE MUSICIAN?...& who would that be? - 11/25/08 06:48 PM

Honestly, if I had to pick one guy...

Man, I listened to so many records growing up, but this guy and his band moved me musically and lyrically when I was in HS. Positive messages in a time when most of their peers were railing against the establishment...Very, very under rated, IMO...

I'd pick Kerry Livgren of Kansas to visit with...

and thank for a number of things...

Actually, no. The people I'd most like to meet, past and present, probably aren't even musicians. BTW, Diki's right; it is a silly question. That's why it's hard for some of us to give you a serious answer. Truth is, I'd probably rather meet (the historical) Jesus Christ, or Ghandi, or Martin Luther King, or even Attila the Hun than say, Thelonius Monk or Charlie Parker. I've met some great musicians over the years; few of them had anything significant or prophetic to say. Search your soul, you'll come to the same conclusion.

If it was up to me I would take the money from the person in question & donate it to the nearest Burn Center to help people of tragedy or some other worth while charity like Autistic Children or our Veterans......that's worth a big Smile!

There's nobody I idolize that much, even if I had the money. IF I did have that kind of money, I'd give it to artists who are not as well known that I really think should get a little more cred. Emily-Clair Barlow, Quebe Sisters, and some songwriters for both of them so they can add some original music to their repertoir.

The money IS going to Charity is it not??? (that's my understanding of the story - I could be wrong).

Anyway, if that's the case, there's nothing wrong with exploiting your fame in that way IMHO.

Oh, and Paul Mcartney.
