Tyros 1 Problem advice - 11/01/08 05:17 PM

HEEEEEELP

My original Tyros after being on for awhile with suddenly stop and reboot. I also have some problems booting it up.
There is a HD inside... could it be the problem?

Any MAC users that connect their Macs to the Tyros via USB to DeFrag the HD and organize files?

THANKS

Tom

Trial by error...., disconnect the HD and boot her up. See how it runs.., corrupt files on an HD can mess with your KB's OS and cause it to do strange things.

Will do

How can I tell if a file is corrupt?

How easy is it to transfer all the info from the old HD to a new one?

Do you think a system reset would help?

Ever defrag the Hard Drive in yours?

Tks

I don't have the Tyros, but this type of problem isn't isolated to a Tyros. It can happen to any keyboard that has a hard-drived installed. You're lucky the Tyros has an option of using the HD... I once owned a synth that relied solely on the HD.., Alesis Fusion 6HD.., what a nightmare) That synths HD coldn't even load its own voice engine at boot up.

I suspect you have a bad file.... It can be hard to locate the problem file at times. If you haven't done a hard reset of your Tyros yet.., def do that! What I would do is disconnect the HD.., then do a full system reset on your Tyros. See how she runs..., then hook that HD back up and go from there. If the problem comes back after connecting the HD back.., then you most likely have a bad file on the HD.

Thanks very much!

And the Hard Reset is where you start up and hold down the key all the way right?

Yup..., that's one beauty about Yammie's. Factory reset is always easy to get to. Many keyboards have it within a menu somewhere. Yammie gets a gold star on this one.

I would NEVER defrag an HD in an arranger from a Mac. EVER...

They are meant to be run by PC's, formatted by PC's. Simple file transfer at most is all I would trust a Mac to get right (and I use one!).

In fact, I wouldn't even try to defrag an arranger HD from a PC unless I had personally contacted the manufacturer, and asked which utility to use, if anything...

A better solution might be to completely back up the HD's contents, and then erase them all from within the arranger. Then load them back in over this cleaned out drive, and everything should be de-fragmented.

Don't EVER use PC utilities on arranger drives unless you are absolutely sure that it is OK to do so. Several members have managed to muck up HD's trying to do this without firm instructions. Never ASSUME...

Guess you didn't se the 'I use one!' part...

But thanks for the dig, anyway

Even booted into Winblows, I would not trust the Mac to do HD formats for third party gear.

Anyway, doesn't the Yamaha format a drive itself? I would go to PSRWorld, or somewhere like that, for definitive help on these issues. Or contact your Yamaha tech support...
