Listen to and play it live, and you will find the online demos & videos (No mater what the manufacture) suck in comparison. (I have heard the Korg live, and listening to the online demos you would not think they were the same board)

Great demo. Thanks Steve.

Those looking for a 76 note arranger would do well with the PA2XPro.

Love the guitars.

Great Find Steve!

I didn't know the intro's were variable based on Major/Minor keys!!! Wow

If you think the Guitars are great, you should hear the Drums and the Bass.

Just Awesome!!!

Re: Pa2XPro Demo - 09/04/08 06:04 PM

If this guy has briefly shown the best of the PA2XPro I am so happy Korg included all those sounds, styles and functions (except for the Vocal Harmony and organ drawbars which I would not use anyway)in my little PA500. I didnīt know either that the introīs were variable based on Major or minor keys!.

Al, you're not the only one who didn't know about the variable intros using major or minor keys. That came as a surprise to me as well .

Mikey looking forward to the trip to Frank's store. TonyMads will join us.

Ian, glad to hear you like. Yea 76 keys was one of the deciding factors. It's working for me.

Re: Pa2XPro Demo - 09/04/08 10:16 PM

Yeah, now I'm definitely either going G-70 or PA2XPro. I need 76 keys, because I'm going to use it as my bottom board when I play with the full band too (replacing my 88 note weighted QS8.2). My top board is a Triton Extreme, so I'm familiar with the Korg set-up, although I played a Roland D-70 for years as well. I'm liking the pricing on the G-70 right now, but overall I think I like the Korg better. Decisions, decisions.....

Don't they all do this? Roland have had this for a long time...

In fact, how COULD you have the same Intro for minor and major chords? An NTT table would just mess up badly with a simple maj/min conversion. It's also why most arrangers have different variation patterns for major, minor, seventh and other chords. There's only so much a lookup table (NTT) can do...

The trick is in the programming. How much difference does the style creator make? Most of the arrangers ALLOW him to make different patterns. Whether he does so or not is more an indication of how good he is...

As I mentioned earlier, if you think the demos are good, wait till you hear it live, your chin will be on the floor.

Yamaha does this as well...it's not really a new feature on most arrangers.

Re: Pa2XPro Demo - 09/05/08 05:00 AM

Ian, In the 6-7 years I owned a Tyros, not once did the Intro's vary based on the mode of the chord that triggered it.

I hope we are talking about the same thing; A major chord triggers a variant of the Intro 1 that is a different arrangement than the same Intro triggered with a minor chord.

Can someone verify that the Tyros 1 and 2 do this?

Yep, an incredible product indeed. Live, it does blow your socks off (I get tweeners everytime I play it). Can't wait to get the new upgrade too

Abacus, I am not understanding you?? Are you saying the PA2Xpro does NOT live up to the demoes? Are you saying playing it live the sound is NOT good?

Not a completely different arrangement...just an Intro suitable for the minor chord.

Korg arrangers aren't sold in my area...they used to be some time ago, when the I-series was first introduced, but extremely poor sales quickly had the dealers drop the line and concentrate on Yamaha arrangers, which were much better received.

Consequently I haven't played the recent Korgs...it's too bad, because they seem to be well supported by a few here.

Great sounds, styles great editing features....
NOT ENOUGH STYLE SUPPORT they must have more styles available...
SEPERATE Simultaneous MODES sty/smf/mp3 is another needed feature that hopefully OS2 will incorporate. Before I ever buy another Korg.

Yep, seems to be a very common complaint, and considering that styles are considered the heart of any arranger, a valid one, to be sure.

Donny you got that right!! That's my only disappointment with the Pa2xPro. But with 76 keys and "Songbook" its keeping me happy. I have found workarounds in the style department. I anxiously await OS2 and hope that more styles are released.

Re: Pa2XPro Demo - 09/05/08 06:49 AM

Steve......

I gotta tell it like it is......I was happy with the KORG features to a point....but the most important thing is the styles...I was disappointed with the lack of them, the ones they provide are really good & being able to mix/match/edit is a big plus....BUT conversions stink, & there is not enough for my needs & the Korg way of doing things with the folder system is even worse & annoying compared to Yamaha, & Roland's OS...these two things alone made me decide to switch to something else.

Re: Pa2XPro Demo - 09/05/08 06:58 AM

I'll say it again. There are many useful styles that are PLENTY enough to do anything (I) want to play....and this is coming from someone that uses style playing only (I) just have to use my imagination.

(I) was very skeptical about dumping the incredible S900, but after working with the PA800 for almost a year now, (I) am soooo happy this board has unleashed (my) creativity. And now the prize might be even more goodies up ahead - how awesome.

It's nice to see the Korg limited number of styles work out for you, Zuki, but I am sure you are one of a very small number of users that can do the workaround and make the lack of styles a positive attribute, rather than a negative.

Re: Pa2XPro Demo - 09/05/08 07:12 AM

Ian,

Yep, have to be brave enough to go that route of trying new stuff. It works for me and my audience, which is the true test.

I surely did love the Yamaha style convenience, but 'different' is a very good thing in a competitive venue.

Appreciate your understanding...

I think Abacus was saying the Korg live is much better sounding than the demos

Well, if any one can make it work...it would be you...I've heard some of your work (with the Yammie)some time ago, and it was beyond reproach...you have your own unique style...I think the song I heard was an original.

And I agree..."different" is what gets people's attention....but it has to be good "different".

Great to see someone playing "outside the box".

Re: Pa2XPro Demo - 09/05/08 07:55 AM

Thanks Ian, you're all too kind

Yes, that song was written about our son. The wife wrote the lyrics and I wrote the music. I plan to put that in my repetoire, but haven't put a Korg style to it yet! This is a case where the Yammy version might be best

Re: Pa2XPro Demo - 09/05/08 09:25 AM

I've actually have had a relative success converting all my Yamaha and other styles over the Korg using EMC Styleworks. I use Midi song to style and that works relatively well. Once in the Pa2, I tweak them a little.

Yes you need to use .SET files, but once open you can import them into any Favorites slot or even the Core styles with ease.

I'm seeing the same issue with the lack of styles that most people have?

It doesn't work exactly the same way as the PA. On the Tyros you can use up to 16 tracks per variation(intro,main,fills,..) and have each track being playback on certain chords. There are a couple of style on the T2 that have a few different bass or guitar tracks depending on the chord you play.
On the PA you can have 2 totally different arrangements for all parts and up to 6 for the main variations. They can also have a different length.

What happens if you think an arranger's demos suck?

Camcorder demos definitely compromise the audio to the point of little use, at least for objectively listening to the sound quality. But you'll usually find most manufacturer audio demos to be MUCH closer to the final sound, allowing for a close impression, at least...

I have heard Roland, Yamaha and Korg arrangers in person, and spent much time listening to their demos. Yes, there is a slight improvement 'live', but it is nowhere NEAR enough to rescue a very bad demo to the point of 'jaw-dropingly' good.

Admittedly, I listen to all the demos (and my own G70) through a pair of Mackie HR824's, so at least they are not being further compromised by hearing them through some crappy computer speakers... That's something you need to take into account. But the factory audio demos come VERY close to the actual live sound of my G70.

Re: Pa2XPro Demo - 09/05/08 12:17 PM

Clarification

1. The online demos do not come close to hearing the Korg live.

2. I have never heard an online demo from any manufacture that sounds close to actually listening to it live. (G70 included)

3. I always use my audio system for serious listening, with the computer speakers used just for the computer.
