http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/index.php

The following message appears:

"Monday 1st September 2008

Due to the success and constant growth of Korgforums, and unfortunately our ever growing demand on the servers resources, we regret to say that unless a solution is found to secure a dedicated server and support, the future doesn't look very good at all for our community.

Our host has been very good to us, but no more I'm afraid. We have greatly outgrown our community and the ideas of it being an unsupported free site.

As soon as we know more, you can find out by checking back here."

I really hope they will resume action soon, there are some real pros there, and that community enjoyed active participation and attention from Korg's development team in Italy.

There are a lot of good resources there for Korg arrangers and workstations. Excellent site and I hope they can work it out..

This is very serious for Korg owners.

It was/is a great site in EVERY sense of the word.

Downloads, Tips, Tricks, more subjects and sub forums then you can shake a stick at, and like it's been said - high up reps from Korg itself kept an eye on that forum listening closely to any requests and relevant topics that came up.

Hmmmmmmmm...............

This is a blow in the face from every serious Korg user...

I think its up to Korg themselves to help find a sollution to the problem. Maybe they should finally take over the site...

If you have any tech savy check into MS Home Server Software - $170 - You can host your own web site.

Paul McFedries MS home server unleashed is a good source of info. If you have a Borders go there & thumb through the book

We are indeed looking to a way to help Irish Acts resume their forum, while still preserving their independence from Korg.

Unfortunately, it is not just a matter of buying some software and a cheap computer to use as a server, since such a high amount of traffic demands for some dedicated servers and data lines.

Best regards,

Thats great news Paolo, hope you guys can work something out..

For what its worth, even if Korg run it as an OFFICIAL forum, I can see no reason why it cannot remain independent.
With everyone able to post INCLUDING Korg staff members who may have their own views on subjects.

All I would suggest is that an "Official" section be maintained along with the other sections so Korg have the space for company policy and announcements

I imagine it could work in a similar fashion to the Cakewalk Sonar forums, official but independent.

Its all good, as far as I'm concerned!!!

You will be totally independent. http://www.theplanet.com/

Re: Korg Forums website suspended - 09/06/08 07:17 AM

I suspect that maybe big daddy Korg himself stepped in to lend a financial hand but I could be wrong about that. The Forum is still independent from what it looks like but there may be more going on "behind" the scenes than you and I know about. Either way, it's a great Korg resource, and definitely kudos to all the Korg staff personnel that submit official Korg input on the Forums. >> Something that at Roland Clan rarely, if ever, happens.

Best,
Mike

Dedicated servers (plural)? For a forum? So again I ask: what numbers are we talking here in terms of data-storage and bandwidth?

Re: Korg Forums website suspended - 09/06/08 03:30 PM

Hi Burkels.

It's not about space or bandwidth in the way you are thinking. It's about more CPU and RAM, plus the ability for high numbers of people to access the database all at the same time.

So think of it as connectivity that demands high CPU and RAM usage. The forums are rather technical and most of the time new members search through old posts than take part in new threads.

It's a huge database of answers to technical questions.

At the moment, we chopped 180,000 posts from the database just to reduce the load while we wait to restore them once we move to a dedicated Server.

Regards.
Sharp.

Hi Sharp,
have you considered a "Donate" icon via Pay Pal like we have here at Synthzone
(it's voluntry).
Hardly seems fair an individual should be burdoned with all the costs.

best wishes
Rikki
