OT: Service pack 3... the latest........ - 08/30/08 07:55 AM

update wants to install service pack three I know we've talked about this before but anybody know of anything new?
Should I or not?
Doesn't matter?
I have gateway media center amd 64 x2 4200+
2048 dual channel ddr if that matters.

And one more thing now that I've said no and the update icon has gone away will it keep trying to install it everytime there is an update or will it skip it now and just do the regular security updates?

thanks
Mike

i just updated, no problems so far. i did it because of security internet issues. but for music i don't think its needed. in fact i'm considering a machine for music only (no network connections). since i'm retired,
i only need 1 keyboard to play around with.
i find myself doing other things than music.

You should be ok guys.
I installed service pack 3, 2 weeks ago after resisting as long as I could.
Everything is working normally on my computer and it should be much more secure.
My only problem (which is my own doing) is that I've set my security level on Internet Explorer to HIGH and it won't let me look at some things on some sites (such as You-Tube).
I then have to lower security to do certain things and then raise it again immediately afterwards. Better safe than sorry!

Good to hear these positive reports. Does anyone know if this is because MS addressed the freezing issues mentioned earlier? I'm still holding out; had to reload everything after my attempt months ago.

Same here Cassp. It crashed my computer and I had to do a complete reset, but the computer is still not working right.

Still a no go for me.

I thought "Big Brother" had stopped supporting Windows XP earlier this year?

Forgive my suspicious nature but I wonder if there is a more sinister reason for SP3?

I trust MicroMax about like a fool trusts a thief. It took me about two weeks to get my laptop to "straighten up and fly right" after the last "service pack" these dilberts pawned off on me.

Got it at work, got it at home.

I waited some weeks and then installed it, no problem at all.

You should really give Vista another look. It is rock solid on my system and performance is pretty robust. Windows XP is really starting to show it's age.

I agree with KBRKR, VISTA is rock solid as long as you install it with SP1. I have a custom built machine that screams! Been running Vista since the SP1 came out with NO issues at all.

I change operating systems when I change computers "if I have to".
My computer still runs great for what I use it for.
My personal belief is a computer runs best for the os it is designed for, for example my system is fairly large and fast for the xp pro I'm using but for Vista it would be "small and slow".

My kids both have Vista and I have set up their computers for them. I wouldn't mind Vista, they have no problems, I'm just not gonna change for the sake of change.
