G70 -Nord Update

G70 -Nord Update - 08/28/08 01:29 PM

I continue to think the Nord Electro as the best without using a Leslie. I use it exclusively in my band gig, as the Leslie sim is more realistic than an arranger.

Having said that, the G70 Harmonic Bar is a close second, and having A/B'd the two, I am making up edited User Sets using the G70,instead of Electro. I can take my G70 alone to gigs whose patrons have "uneducated ears". I am paraphrasing Fran, who said the G70 was plenty good enough, especially while being used with accompaniment. He is right.

I love my Nord, but when it is not imperative to have it besides the G70, I can save a lot of time and effort. The G70 continues to be the best arranger I have ever had.

Bernie, really glad you're enjoying the G-70. I have an Electro 61 and a C-1. I use them together, with the Electro on my right hand, for the pianos. Did a B-3 and Suitcase Rhodes for years (still do on one long-time house job), and this is close to that sound. When I use both, I use a Motion Sound 145 with the C-1. When I use the Electro alone, I use a Motion Sound Pro 3 top rotor box if I need to use the organ sounds. Mostly, I really like the pianos in the Electro.

Be well,

Thanks, Russ. I bet that combo sounds great, and probably, the Motion Sound with the Electro alone would give it that extra sound of pushing air. I haven't the toy collection you have. I will have to wait until I get a warehouse too. ha ha

I am looking at Pro-3 Motion Sound. It looks like you would keep the horns off on the Nord, and use the Motion Sound. I know you amp the bass, and I heard the Pro-3 horns are not amped nor mic'd, but have enough power to carry itself. Can you confirm this, and do you feel the Pro-3 has a much better sound than the Leslie sim ?

Why wouldn't this work with the G70 ?

Bernie, the Pro 3 or any device with rotating speakers would work fine with the G-70. The Pro 3 has about 45 watts, I think. The thing is, I think real doppler only matters to me, in many cases. Once you tape the sound, the effect is minimalized. I just LOVE to have that Air moving when I play. Frankly, the simulator in either the Nord or the G-70 would probably suffice for me. I'm just to stubborn to do it that way. I used to mic 147's and 145's. The new Motion Sound 145 is 200 watts (don't know what the power is to the horn...I'll check next week). I haven't checked if there's a line out on my Pro 3, because I don't need the extra power, but, again, if you were to line out or mike, you'd minimize the doppler.

At over $700.00, the Pro 3 is probably not a wise use of equipment funds for me or many of us around here, but, hey, that never stopped me before!

Thanks Russ
I wouldn't mic the horns, just a line out for the bass into my Bose. There is a 1/4 in line out for that. I am a fool for the dopler effect, myself. If I can satisfy myself, then I know I'm in the ball game. BTW I am talking used(pristine) for $300 plus shipping.

Bernie, at that price, I'd grab it quick. In fact, I know someone else looking for one>

Enjoy,

Russ

I have emailed the seller. He was hoping to sell it locally so they could try it on their own equipment. He is leery of UPS and Fedex damaging the unit, but would consider it with insurance(duh).
