Studio monitors under $200......... - 07/04/08 04:33 AM

First of all I know the word studio and the under $200 don't go together.

I am looking for a decent set of Studio monitor type speakers for a home situation. (Maybe they are called nearfield monitors or reference monitors?)
I of course want decent sound and only 2 speakers, I don't have room for the logitech and I have a subwoofer type system set up on my computer in another room.
The speakers will sit approx. 3 to 4 feet from my face.

I was wondering about the edirol MA-15D Digital Stereo Micro Monitor Pair? and didn't Roland used to make something similar? I know Roland and Edirol are related companies I was just wondering if Roland took their speakers and put the edirol name on them.
Anyone have any experience.

Take a look at the new Roland 'CUBE' line ... sounds pretty good... I can't remember the $$$ but I think they have a model in your $$$ range.

the behringer MS40 powered monitors are really great sounding and sell for around $149 per pair. They look like the Roland pair that sell for $229.00. Both have analog inputs as well as digital inputs. I use them in my hard disk recording display and customers are really suprised when I tell them how little they cost. http://www.behringer.com/MS40/index.cfm?lang=ENG

You really should try each speaker, some people will say some are harsh, some have no bass, some have a boomy bass response.

You need to find a speaker that will work for you and not cause ear fatigue.

All speakers have their own "color" or version of sound that is put into them.

You need to see which won will work for you.

I've gone through so many different monitors, and each one I would find faults and pluses,

Frank good advice for sure .....but for under $200.00 leaves very little choices for high quality monitors.
