The best trumpet on an arranger for that type of music is on a Roland. (Not much use for other types though)

Bill with a simple statement like that I would have to ask you to provide a demo of it...Roland is no match for Yamaha to my ears regarding Trumpet.

Click on Latin or Brass....

You know what's irritating is Yamaha using the Megavoices in the sound demo's. If it was in styles OK, but they use them for solo demos. How many of us can play a Megavoice live?

i'll take your trumpet in post 1 and raise it with this one
http://www.box.net/shared/i31p1fcowo

It's a custom voice made from the Ty2 SilverTrumpet designed to bend in various ways depending on velocity. (Not the SA trumpet which can't be accessed for this type of editing)
There was NO use of the Pitch wheel in this demo

Awesome, John...you do terrific work...I have some of your other voices...absolutely exceptional...the piano that has it's tone controlled by the mod wheel is a work of art and very useful.

John nice work on a Classic song one of my favorites. The Yamaha Trumpets are surly awesome in their own right as is so many of their other voices, Classic Guitar, SA sax, etc, ...

Thanks for the Demo, do you also have one for the Piano Ian is talking about?

Thanks guys for the nice comments.

Donny, you asked about a piano demo.

I produced this one on Ty2 using a piano custom voice I produced some time ago using the PC Editor. http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/whiskarellafarm/demos/sol2.wma

It's based on the Preset Live Piano, but heavily edited to produce different characteristics.
The one that Ian refers to is an "equivalent" for the S900 bearing in mind that the best (ie. PC) edits have not been possible for that keyboard, but it's close - I think

Hi DNJ
There is not just one type of Trumpet, (That’s why arrangers have a selection) and if you compare the Trumpet on the Roland and Yamaha to a live band that plays this type of music, you will find that the Roland sound is a lot closer. (There’s no way Yamaha or any other manufacture can have the best Trumpet for every type of music)
Golden Rule: Always compare the sounds on keyboards etc, to live instruments, (Unless they are unique to the board) not with sounds on other boards.

John outstanding!!!! I really enjoyed listening to that Piano for sure.....I can see what some good tweaking con offer for sure....& very nice playing too. I wish I was more of a Piano player then an arranger player, Although LH chords are no problem..but my Accordion background leaves a weaker left hand vs two hand Piano style playing. I do however have a very strong RH for leads & comps.

Thanx for posting your work.

Isn't she Lovely? Great song! I play it several times a week. Really liked the guy, his choice of tones and the subtle variations on the lead line. Tyros sounded fine, too!

Good Stuff!

Thanks,

Good piano sound and playing. I have been wracking my brains trying to remember the name of the piano tune. What is it please

Re: Best sounding Trumpet on an arranger? - 06/19/08 03:22 PM

Cheers DNJ, and thanks Scott.

The tune is based on Solitude by Duke Ellington.
Played freestyle & loose, from having heard it, not from a score

Re: Best sounding Trumpet on an arranger? - 06/20/08 11:19 PM

Anyone a horn player here? Impressed?

Didn't think so

Brass can turn on a dime. One minute it's all James Last, next minute it's Miles. No horn patch has ever remotely approached the range of the real thing. Restrict yourself to one narrow timbre, and you can get close, but the problem is that horn players are so distinctive, No-one would ever confuse Maynard with Miles, or Burt Kaempfurt with Satchmo.

Expecting one horn Tone to work for everything is futile. Best approach is to have several under your fingers, and chose which you need on the spur of the moment. BTW, I HATE those velocity triggered trills, falls, doits, whatever. What happens if you want to play loud WITHOUT a decoration? Much better to trigger those with a footswitch, and gain the ability to trill at low volume and play straight at high, when you need it...

So, for the different manufacturers, a push, in my book. They ALL get some of it right, and miss some of it completely. As you would expect, IMO...
