what to check out at NAMM? - 06/13/08 08:39 AM

My son Logan and I will be at Summer NAMM for all of Friday and until noon on Saturday-next week. Anything specific you want me to check out?

My interests. personally are:

* A Goden jazz guitar
* A new Ibanez Hybred-announced-not yet available.
* A new Hammond B-3. If things work out, I'll buy one there. My old one stays permanently at a job, and I'd like to have a new piece of "furniture" at home. Already made a place for it!

Let me know...

Russ... could you find out if Hammond have plans to upgrade the XM2 module to be sonically equivalent to the XK-1/3c..? I'd really like to add one of these to my rig, but I'll hold off until the XM2 is brought up to date.

Any new news from Motion Sound, or any other company trying to make a smaller Leslie would be of interest, too.

And if you haven't already played it, give the Nord Stage (and C1 if you haven't tried it already)) a spin for us. I'd love to hear your comments.

Oh, and if Ketron are there, throw a set of critical ears on that audio loop stuff, if you can!

Hi, Diki. I own a C-1 and an Electro, played through a new Motion Sound 145. Bought late last year.

As far as Ketron goes, even though I own and use an SD-5 and old MS-60's, I have a problem with the current organization and, right now, am not interested in being a customer or even talking to them.

Sad, because Ketron is my favorite brand.

I'll let you know.

Donny, probably won't be photos...I'll be working the show, with lots of appointments.

There are always plenty of post show photos.

As far as Hammond goes, I'll check everything out. My mission is to come home having placed the order for the new B-3.

Diki, I can tell you that, as an old time B-3 player, I'm satisfied with the C-1, given the weight/portability considerations. The Electro is also impressive...neat Rhodes/Farfisa/Hamond and other sounds, plus an acceptable piano. Like Nord a lot!

I'll let you know what I find.

Sadly, I won't get to check out Namm. The band who has hired me to do a gig next weekend pulled a nasty little trick on me and booked my flight through hotwire, which means I fly out Thursday, get back Sunday, all for a show on Friday night. That did not make my day at all. The bright side is I do get twice the pay I would have got as extra compensation. Not quite sure why they didn't have the presence of mind to just put that extra compensation toward getting me a better flight schedule, but oh well, doesn't happen often that I get paid extra to sit around and do nothing. lol.

Lee, the tyros 3 will not be shown to the public yet at NAMM. I was told that there would be a prototype only shown to a few in a hotel suite outside of the NAMM exhibit.

Ditto Rory' great site. One of my favorites that you sung was one posted on SZ a year or 2 ago, "Lonesome Me" sung as to a Bossa Nova style. Got it on my iPod and fire that tune up every once in a while.

Check out Rory playing "Fast Lane" on You Tube http://youtube.com/watch?v=eIvNxF89qkA

George,
Your a big player in this game... I hope they invited you to come to that hotel suite???

Yamaha isn't stupid, they know information will leak out and I'm sure they want it to.

Lee,
I won't be attending the summer NAMM Show. However, I'm hoping to receive information as soon as it is available.
