Always clockwise. Extreme right-brainer.

These responses will be interesting.

I can't even FORCE myself to see it counter-clockwise...

Obviously, I only have (the right) half of my brain. This explains a lot!

(76 keys, Jimmy Buffett tunes, Roland arrangers, c'mon, don't be shy!)

I thought this WAS The Bar...

Do you mean we are supposed to actually discuss arrangers SERIOUSLY here??

That seems like a left brained comment....

If there is anything the non-serious person hates worse than a serious person, it's another non-serious person who isn't serious about the standards of non-seriousness.

I hope I've made myself perfectly clear.

I think this is bogus. Sometimes it turns one way, sometimes the other. Seems I can make it change directions by scrolling the mouse wheel a little.

Based on her shadow...she is jumping in the air and appears to br ALWAYS revolving clockwise....or maybe not.

I've never been much good at telling which direction women were going or thinking.

Re: NEW THREAD - LEFT VS. RIGHT - Take the test - 04/03/08 10:29 PM

It was definately clockwise for me at first. But if I watch the foot swinging around and crossing the vertical leg I can now keep switching between the 2 directions.

Re: NEW THREAD - LEFT VS. RIGHT - Take the test - 04/04/08 01:16 AM

At first it was definitely clockwise ONLY.
I called our secretay to see it, and she saw the same, and then as we were talking about it, she said "look not it changed"....

After looking down on the advertisment below, I could then sense it change.

Re: NEW THREAD - LEFT VS. RIGHT - Take the test - 04/04/08 07:57 AM

Not sure about the origin of this test, but I'm really sure of the validity of all the academic research on right/left brain theory. Read the description of the differences in comprehension on the right. If the test works, those who see a reversal of the direction are pretty balanced, and have the ability to both think in a linear fashion as well as handle abstract thought, comprehension and activity. Those who are left-brain dominant only process in a linear fashion (engineers, accountants, math folks, etc.).

Think of your results here and apply that to how your brain operates. There are extermely talented left-brained musicians. Generally, these are the classically trained ones who sight read like crazy, but couldn't improvise if their life depended on it.

At the other extreme are the right-brained musicians at the top of their game who never bothered to learn to read and don't see the relivance, but can improvise like crazy.

Same thing in all walks of life. This is serious business for many communications academics. The body of research is massive, and results are used around the world in designing communications programs.

It helps my students understand where they are coming from, and helps them understand why they're the way they are.

It reaqlly helps me understand my strengths and weaknesses.

I've been studying and teaching right/left brain theory at the college level for over 30 years.

GOOD STUFF!

Re: NEW THREAD - LEFT VS. RIGHT - Take the test - 04/04/08 01:54 PM

For what it's worth.....

The picture is an animated gif file.

http://134.84.113.36/images/dancer.gif

It consists of 34 frames or stills that are displayed for .003 seconds per frame, looping continuously. I checked the code and the loop does not change directions. The loop starts at frame 1, ends at frame 34, and starts over.

For me when I start with frame 1, the dancer is spinning clockwise. But even as I advance it 1 frame at a time, if I lose my "is that her front or back reference", she will change directions.

Look at frames 7 & 24. Which leg is extended...right or left?

Your answer will correlate to which direction she is turning. If I make the mental switch at those points, I can see her spinning back & forth 180 degrees only.

I believe this is one of those optical illusions or puzzles that we've all seen before (only moving).

Do you see a woman or a sax player?

It really comes down to your point of reference...what are you concentrating on?

Whatever the answer is, it was fun.

My hindbrain was checking out the rack.

My frontal lobes were wondering why the Telegraph needed to display a naked woman to make a point...

There's something wrong with your eyes. It's only anticlockwise. (after I accepted the cookie)
Makes me the only 100% left brainer on this board

I've tried all the tricks on this thread and I still only see clockwise - it's making me mad. Yet I think the left-brain description describes me far better than the right brain...

Re: NEW THREAD - LEFT VS. RIGHT - Take the test - 04/07/08 01:48 AM

It can be seen turning clockwise, and anti-clockwise. Maybe it's easier to download picture, and open it in IE (it turns slower then).

Other "trick" is to click and drag the picture holding left mouse button (works when opening the page in Firefox) and rotation stops, then You have to visualize the girl standing on right foot, an force you to expect she will turn anti-clockwise, release the left mouse button, and she will be turning anti-clockwise.

I stared into it long enough... I think I saw God! (Ian probably saw Yamaha, though!)

It's too wide for 61, must be a 76!
