Haven't decided yet. I have two places I can work, but I might just decline, IF I can find someone to fill in.

Re: Who's Giggin EASTER SUNDAY? - 03/20/08 12:46 PM

I had an offer to do a 12 - 2 brunch at a local CC, but I turned it down ...
My son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren are coming up from NY, to join us and our daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren for dinner ...
As much as we see each other, I still don't get enough time with the NYers to lose 3 1/2 hrs (including travel etc.) to play a gig ...

Donny, the only thing I'm interested in that day is the Pizza Gain you're talking about. Great stuff for a traditional Italian Easter.

I have never played a job on Easter Sunday. After church, dinner and Easter egg hunts - there was never enough time left. This year, we have the new grandbaby .... should be a blast.

Re: Who's Giggin EASTER SUNDAY? - 03/21/08 02:04 PM

Just another holiday to me .....& people need music in their life....for the less fortunate then me I will always put a smile on their faces with my performances when no one cares about them especially in assisted living homes. Its a shame kids just dump their parents into these places and never visit them.
My own needs come second,. There's plenty of time afterwards to enjoy my own family.

Re: Who's Giggin EASTER SUNDAY? - 03/22/08 07:25 AM

I'll also be gigging for God. This past week, Holy Week, is probably my busiest of the year. I play a lot more music than at Christmastime - and enjoy it so much.

??? Does anyone here belong to the AGO (American Guild of Organists)? I've made it this long without belonging, but am now feeling a need to join. I feel that I'm more of an untrained talent than a real, classically trained and educated organist. I've played in church for almost 40 years and have always felt guilty over my lack of classical skills and knowledge. At 58, should I take some lessons? What kind? People say I play well and enjoy my style and repertoire. Maybe I'll put away the organ shoes in another 5 yrs., who knows. Maybe it's just a phase I'm going through.

Here's my Easter line up :

Above All (solo on piano) roll the stone

Christ The Lord Has Risen Today
I believe in Jesus
During communion - I can only Imagine
He is Exalted
Spirit Song

We'll probably have 150 people at early service.

Re: Who's Giggin EASTER SUNDAY? - 03/22/08 09:38 AM

Thanks Dan01, beautiful looking church! We have some similarities in our program!

Hymn: Jesus Christ is Risen Today
Praise Cycle: I am the Resurrection (Ray Repp), Our God Reigns
Hymn: Alleluiah! The strife is o'er the battle done.
Offertory: You Are My King (Amazing Love)
Communion: Above All
Hymn: He Is Risen, He is risen

The photo was taken with my Tyros2, now replaced by the Korg Pa2XPro which will be used to accompany all of the above.

Re: Who's Giggin EASTER SUNDAY? - 03/22/08 05:44 PM

Our lineup looks like this:

Festive Prelude
Christ the Lord Is Risen Today
Behold the Rising of the Son
Up From the Grave He Arose
Various hymns during Communion
The Hallelujah Chorus (Handel)

After this I'll be ready for a nice little nap.

Happy Easter everyone!

I'm no one to talk, but just be careful of how many strangers get your holiday time. I'm about to head out to iHop for my solo Easter dinner while my beautiful daughters and their amazing mom spend the day with cousins. You and Nancy have me beat by a lot of years, but just be aware .... the "gig" ain't all there is to your life. I'd like to change a great many things about the hours I worked.

What a great easter Sunday....I performed two different shows, made many people & their visiting families very happy putting a smile on their faces was heart felt for me ....then went home and took out my kids, new born grand daughter & lovely wife for a fantastic dinner at my friends

Donny,
You know I love ya, but please don't put "Godfather" wisdom out there as family advice!

Those movies make real families look like a thing of the past.

Re: Who's Giggin EASTER SUNDAY? - 03/23/08 08:20 PM

Dave depends on how someone grew up
There is so much truth in the "Godfather" Sagas 1,2,3....MY all time favorites.

For now I'll leave it there. This is definitly Not the place for a discussion like this.

Although I am excited to take my kids to see In MAY Indiana Jones, Speed Racer, & Chronicles of Narnia

Dave, look at the other side. Look at how devoted you are to your faamily. I'd like to change some (read MANY) of the music related things I've done, too...most related to the time away from kids.

But, you're a great friend, teacher and parent. You can't script life like a "feel good" movie, but, compared to many others, you're a winner in that area, for sure!

You should be proud of the life you've led.

Re: Who's Giggin EASTER SUNDAY? - 03/24/08 11:50 AM

Aw shux .....
I just hate seeing mobsters giving "family" advice when they value human life so little. Nothing said in and GF movie can be taken seriously. Yeah, Don Corleone has loyalty, and values? ... hahahaha
It doesn't matter how you were raised. The entire montra of the mob mentality is 100% hipocriticle and it makes me somewhat ashamed for the 50% of my heritage that came form Italy.
Sorry .... this subjec is too close to my heart to just pass by. Even if the actual words "could" have some meaning .... coming from the mouth of a murderer (yes, even in hollywood) they loose all impact for me.

Please don't use murderes and mobsters as family examples.

Whew. I feel better now.

Re: Who's Giggin EASTER SUNDAY? - 03/24/08 12:35 PM

Dave it goes way deeper then that...but as I said before this is not the place to ever discuss Family Business in anyway shape or form.
Whew glad I got that off my mind

We need breakfest & a group hug
