Miami Mo finally learns how to post first Mp4 - 02/04/08 02:05 PM

whew! between my life lately and the rocket brain surgery involved, I finally got it done? will send more comprehensive samples
from both Cd's and cover art soon(yeah i know
I said that over 2 weeks ago) and chas..re your recent thread re why post? I'm gonna try to get some of you to buy them! already sent
StephenM. his..hey Steve,a testimonial lol?

Here is Boogie Blues Jam (5:00) from my new
demo CD, WE IS US: Mo & Madafo. I actually did this with SZ in mind. I'm on the E60, with the bass/drums only from the Blue Boogie Style. The intro/outro is Arlen's "Blues in the Night"w/a cappella Roland scat vocal..may be layered with chorus,i forget. Then it goes into boogie-woogie jam w/piano, then organ, then harmonica layered with another organ, then scat, then piano again, then scat outro.

My working duo partner is percussionist
Madafo. His contributions keep the rhythms
from sounding "canned". Was not overdubbed, we did it live..but a lot of editing went into it. We did a lot of run-throughs with different sounds, finally settled on which and how much and in what order to fit them together for best effect.

not a cop-out, but keep in mind keys are my 3rd best ax after sax and vocals (you'll hear some of those when i package my sales pitch
for you) only play keys since 1999 so no way am i a legit "pianist". but I am proud of the
custom piano sound i assembled, and the organ
assembly too, so if u Roland E cats want the formulas I'll be happy to give..just email me. Here's the mp4 via yousendit:HOPE THIS WORKS!!!!!!LOL

IF U GOT WRONG ONE SORRY.. I DELETED IT GO TO NEXT POST DOWN LOL WHAT A TECH DUFUS.

Good work Mo! Is that you singing or the famous scat voices I've heard about.

Re: Miami Mo finally learns how to post first Mp4 - 02/04/08 03:59 PM

that's the roland scatters..they is baaaad.
i sing but don't scat..couldn't possibly come
close to stuff i can "scat" on kb..there is one complaint i have..regular touch you get plain note, hitharder get a staccato, harder still
get an ow!...but the stacatto can be a pain to deal with.

Hi Mo:

I had planned on giving a testimonial but it got away from me. You'd think a guy home on sick leave would have all the time in the world! And yes I do, I'm just trying to do everything I don't have time to do while working an 8 to 5 day job.

Hey SZ folks Mo's CDs are definitely worth your purchase. He's a talented jazz musician, make no mistake about it. You can bet I wouldn't have a day job if I played the way he does. On first listening to the CDs the one called "We is Us" was my favorite, but after listening a few more time it's a tie for my favorite with the CD called "Me and My Nino." The selections on " Me and My Nino" are more in tune with what I like listening to. But, " We is Us" is reminiscent of a band I heard in my early 20s while in Miami, hence "We is Us." being my favorite first time around. The band was led by a guy name Joe Donato. I'm including the e-mail exchange with MO that shows what a small world the internet has put us in.

Steve writes:
Hi Mo:

Got your 2 CDs autographed copy and all. Thank you.

I'm sitting here with my laptop and just transferred the music to my iPod. Nice stuff for sure. I just love "Siboney" so far my favorite. I'm sure I'll have others once I give it a good listen. Very unique vocals, I enjoyed them.

In 1976 I took a cross country trip with my late cousin. We were both 24 years old took leave of absence from work and went on the road for 11 weeks. We met a couple of Miami University girls who happened to be music majors. Later that evening they took us to a hotel lounge near Miami International to listen to music. The guy who was playing was Joe Donato, he had this big guy with him that he called "Big Bamboo." Not only were they great, but your "We is Us" album reminds me of Joe Donato's performance that night.

Mo replies:
great story...
I visited Miami regularly in the 80’s from NY to see my parents.
(didn’t move here until 93) went to as many jams as I could.
Met Joe Donato then..he had his own club for a year near airport..i sat in.
He was HUGE here in the 70’s and 80’s. u have no idea how big.
a frikkin institution, every important private party date...

I had my own club 93-98 and Joe was still my top 2 drawing local,
even up with the legendary Ira Sullivan . Joe mostly teaches now, plays some..
Ira mostly does an occasion concert..he’s 75..both play better than ever..

Songs from " We Is Us" brings me back to that night in Miami. if only in my daydreams

I highly recommend the CDs you won't be disappointed!!

after getting swamped by advice-givers 2 weeks
ago about how to post my samples. all i get after 6 hours is TWO guys, one of whom bought
my Cd and heard the cut already???????????? i hope this is like Abe Lincoln when nobody reacted to the Gettysburg address--they were so in awe! sheeeesh just because i put the disclaimer in there about not being a "pianist" doesn't mean you can't have some fun ripping me
apart! i mean am i on SZ or did i come to the
bizzaro version by mistake?

Mo, they aren't in mp3 format. That may have something to do with it.

Wait, I didn't have RealPlayer on my studio computer. They played fine on my office computer. The scats sound pretty much identical to those on my VP550. The E60 sounds good. Anybody know what the sound engine is?

Sorry for the late read and reply, Mo.

I think your blues jam is excellent. The Scat intro would blow live audiences away. The piano work is great. I like the organ section too, but you can't use a pitch bend with that sound. Was that an accordion next? Like that too. I definitely like your style; makes me jealous.

So where and how does one get one of these CDs? I'll take one.

Re: Miami Mo finally learns how to post first Mp4 - 02/05/08 06:53 AM

cass, thanks, I'll post more samples of both Cd's and foto/copy and how to order. soon.

the 'accordian' was a harmonica layered over an organ. yes when i do the scat vocals live i lipsynch it and people flip out!!! then i smile and stop the lipsynch and they crack up

no i can't use a pitchbend with the organ if i want to have an authentic organ simulation. but that wasn't my intent, so i had some fun with it. so as my obama mama here say: Yes I can!

Right click the file, select Open with, and then choose whatever your favourite player is. (Windows Media Player 11 works fine)
Hope this helps

You should be able to use media player (windows) or I used winamp on one computer it treats it just like an mp3
