Who's had their main arranger the LONGEST...?

Just for a change, how about hearing from the more static members, here at SZ...?

Who's been playing their main arranger the longest? Home or 'pro', it doesn't matter. I'd just like to hear, for a change, from some of you that DON'T hop and skip all the time, but rather settle, and grow comfortable and familiar with their main axe.

Me, I'm a relative newbie, got my G70 in the middle of 2005. Mind you, I had my G1000 for eight or nine years prior to that, and unless something amazing happens (like Roland return the Chord Sequencer in all it's glory!), I sure want to get the same span from the G70!

So, all you contented folk... speak up! Let's hear from some HAPPY (with their arranger!) people for a change

I am just like you looking in a mirror...sort of..

G1000 for 9 years and G70 for a year..

Before the G1000, I used the G800..

When I find a good board I ride it out...as long as it goes..

Roland G-800, bought it around 1996,or early 1997, I am not sure about the year, but it is still working as a midi player at home.
So that's about 11-12 years now.
Never bought another arranger.

I had one of those, but it's one of the few things I unloaded fairly quickly (I think about a year or slightly more) because I got basically a straight trade over to a new G1000 (worked at a dealer at the time ) and the ZIP and newer sounds were a no-brainer.

But it still has that great key-bed and classic Roland operation (before they started messing with it!). Hang on to it, Freddy... it's a keeper

Difficult to say, as software based boards will always last longer then any hardware based board. (Had the Abacus since about 2003/2004)
On the other hand, as a new OS brings a new board, (Although the physical side remains the same) I’ve actually changed it twice, with a third one coming up in the future.
Confusing, I think I will leave it to each person to make up their own mind about it. (Don’t forget to take into account that you cannot play any of the sounds and styles on later OS versions, on an earlier OS)

No, Bill... 2003/4 is just fine.

It doesn't matter how many OS revisions (G70 has gone through two major ones itself, but I don't consider it a new arranger!), just when you first got the arranger.

Now, if you have had to have extensive 'hardware' mods (new computer cards, new voice cards, that sort of thing), that definitely puts it into a grey area, but just OS things (IMO, an' I started this thread! ) don't count!

I can't really participate either...I generally change every three years.

My job allows me to always have the latest arranger to work with, although the choice to buy it is still up to me.

I usually end up buying...having an employee's discount helps and is certainly a motivator.

It's not that I don't learn all about each successive instrument...again my work requires I know it completely...so being totally familiar with it is a given, and it usually doesn't take that long to get up to speed considering the Yamaha OS system doesn't vary that much from one year to the next.

I love the S900, but unless the next generation is a step backward(unlikely),I can pretty well guarantee I'll move on up to a new T3 or S***.

Tony .....please tell us why you kept it so long....what is it that makes you love it?.....as an ex KN6000 owner...

I try not to change more than once or three times or so a year.
The kb I hated most of all was G800. The joystick broke when it was two weeks old. The buttons started sticking and the paint wore off, the display was tiny and hard to read. I suppose it was a lemon, because lots of people loved 'em. It did SOUND good though.
Longest I ever played one was PSR2000--more than a year, though I didn't intend to!
I have a new one on the way now. This PSR S900 has gotten a smudge on the display.

I had the Technics KN1000 for about 4 years , the Yamaha PSR8000 for about the same length and now the PA1x for about 2.5 years. I wont change this one till i have learned and applied all the functions i can so i cant see me changeing it for another 3 years or so.

I am more focused on being a musician these days.

started working keys in 1999. until last fall when i switched to E60, I used Korg is35 which
is still my backup..for a couple years recently
i used Technics kn2600 on some gigs. I miss the
scat vocals from the the kn2600 i sold, there were more of them and better even than the vaunted Roland ones.

I also cannot contribute to this subject to answer the Topic .....& that is simply because they haven't made something that has enough of the features "I need" to keep a KB that long. Many have come close but lose because after a purchase & when you start digging your teeth into it in real time applications on stage you realize it ain't gonna happen for ya versus just a short store demo... .....and so what? If you have the funds to switch, & it makes you happy so be it. Where is it written you can't switch as much as you want? What makes one person happy doesn't necessarily make another the same way. The Korg PA800 did come Very close for me in many ways....& I came away realizing we're on the verge of greatness in the arranger KB field in the very near future....just wait and see Maybe then I can reach total happiness & possibly keep one for a long long while.
I'm hoping for that sometime next year .

I thought I would have my PSR-3000 for a long time, but that's another story on another thread.

I had a KN-3000 for 7 years used as both the primary keyboard, and then later as a backup. Built like a Sherman Tank. I wish I would have kept it.

Miami Mo is right about the scat voices on the KN2600 (Baby KN-7000). Almost unbelievable human sounds! Technics had a good thing going. It's a shame they are gone. ( Anyone selling a KN-2600 ?)

I've had a G 1000 for 9 years. I played it up until a year and a half ago when I got a Tyros 1 and a Ketron MidJay. Before that I played a G 800. I still have the G 1000 in my studio.

I'm seriously looking at selling my Tyros2 and getting the Pa2xpro. What was it about the PA800 that you didn't like? Was it the O/S?

Also, your hinting that something better is coming out next year. Do you have inside information? Can you at least tell us the brand? The only new arrangers that are due are the T3, Audya, a new Roland. So I have a 33% chance of guessing correctly. Unless, there's something way out of left field.

Korgs OS is a bit different.....
and once you learn it & that's not to difficult it is fine....like any of the others Ketron, Roland etc, etc, .....I would suggest the KORG (3) DVD instructional set "Arranger Secrets" with a fourth coming soon.

This will help you get started fast for sure. My personal arranger KB needs are unique & individually suited for me ....you cannot generalize them.....everyone has their "Comfort Zone"

this is really an interesting thread. A good place to learn more about you people.
I still have 11 keyboards in my studio after selling all 5 of the Technics. Sadly these are like 5000.00 keyboards that are currently worth 10.00, so I just keep them. Some of them go back to the early 70's.
I am currently playing the Roland E 80 since may and the Tyros 2 since the dan it came out and Dan got the first one to me, whenever that was.
the PSR 9000 with max Ram, hard drive and Scsi Cd is still in here and I have offered that to Larry Hawk to replace his junk yamaha in another post. The PSR is such a tank that he could keep it for many years without problems, I belive.
thanks to all for your update info. It is good to know what is what and where. I am wondering what to get next. I haven't had a korg for a long time and only one in here so maybe the PA2xPro might be next. I will just sit here and copy the mail and make a decide one of these days.

Donny ... maybe I just don't like change ... Played with the same band for 26 years ... Worked for the same company for 40 years ... married to the same woman for 45 years in November, ... lived in the same house for 24 years ... etc ...

OR ... maybe it's the ease of the kn6's operating system ... it's 16 track sequencer, it's ease of making changes 'on the fly', the sounds that are still good to my ears, and apparently those of my audiences, etc., etc., etc. ... and most of all, I guess it's the fact that, while other boards MAY have sounds (more realistic guitars with fret and 'slide' noises) and features (harmonizers, vocal recording capability), etc. that are really nice, I haven't heard anything 'blow me away' enough to make me learn a new operating system ...

I have been happily using a Technics KN 2000 for more than 12 years. In fact, when my very expensive original one died, I found a mint cond one on ebay - for $300 - and saved shipping by picking it up myself. I use it as a main board with a band, playing left hand bass and right hand electric piano, organ and various layers. I use the arranger functions for solo gigs, or for dinner music during an otherwise full band gig. I thin out the styles I use, cutting back this or that accompaniment part or muting it altogether, and everything sounds tatseful and suprisingly hip. It has been a true warhorse for me! I have a KN 3000 as well, which has a slightly different part assignment scheme than the 2000, some different sounds and a very useable ON Bass mode. I should use that board more often.

While we are on the topic, I had a floppy disk filled with styles and set ups for the 2000. I had not used that floppy in some time and when I went to do so the other day on a gig, the screen readout told me that "the data on the disk was created for another product" or something to that effect. I have used that very disk before with no problems. can anyone suggest what the problem might be?

Can you all Imagine if TECHNICS pops up again on the arranger scene all over again because of all the interest, love & devotion to its players ........whats wrong with them to drop the line all they had to do was main stream them instead of ripping people off with blown out prices in Home organ stores and they would still be here Argggg!

Keytron SD1 since it first came out 2001 or 2002, bought Tyros, G70, and currently own PA1X Pro Elite, but still gigging with SD1, for what I do, which is all arranger styles, I love Sd1 the best

The one and only arranger I have, is the Casio CTK-750, bought September 1994.

Fortunately, I have been able to use it as a keybed with styles, using softsynths as sound source. It sure freshened it up a lot.
