... the transpose button on my kn6000 ...I know my board is old, and may be considered 'passe' by some, but it has some great features, including the 'Transpose' button ...
Today I played a Christmas party at an self/assisted living Senior housing site ... Having battled with a cold and a 'croupy' cough all week, I KNEW I wasn't going to be able to hit some of the high notes ... All I had to do was hit the 'Transpose' button once for each 1/2 step I wanted to bring the song down ...
Worked like a charm and no one was the wiser ...
PS... also another advantage of being a OMB ... imagine if I were playing with a horn player and playing tunes in the key of B or F# ???

Well, B for sure is not the horn players key of choice, but surprisingly, F# is not bad at all...

You have to remember that tenor sax and trumpet (and soprano sax) are all Bb instruments, so when you are in F#, they are playing in Ab, a pretty good key for a horn!

But playing horn (I play trombone) with a lot of guitar bands, you get pretty used to playing in a lot of sharp keys! If only guitarists tuned a half-step flat...

Forgot to add, though... Thank God for the transpose button when you AND the horn player are reading the same book...! At least you can t-pose to Bb (or Eb for an alto) and he doesn't have to sight transpose (or you!).

The transpose button is one of the greatest inventions ever for keyboards. The only unfortunate thing about my XK-1 is that it doesn't transpose.

I sure was happy to see that my PA800 was able to alter pitch and tempo on the fly, as well as save the settings on MP3 as well as styles.

I love using the transpose, especially(on the S900) when it waits for you to get back on the keys before it jumps...I'm sure other arrangers allow that as well.

I also like to transpose down a key in a song(at the appropriate time, of course)...I find it a nice change from only doing ups.

According to Hammond Suzuki's XK-1 page;

Tuning:
Master: 430 ~450 (Hz Steps)
Transpose: -6 ~ 0 ~ +6

Take another look at the manual, cassp...

Diki - great detective work. I'll check it out first thing in the morning. That will be a great help. Thanks much!
