When are they going to start making more modern looking keyboards?

When are they going to start making more modern looking keyboards? - 05/12/03 01:48 PM

Why are some makers taking a step backwards with the overall design of today's keyboards??? Take the KN-7000... It's a great keyboard, but they took a step back.. The KN6000/6500 was much more sleak, and well rounded. The KN-7000 is very boxy. Plus they took a step back to what Yamaha did years ago and made the entire control panel on a hinge. The KN-6000/6500 looked great with the way the screen and the keys around it flipped up. Take a good look at the Korg Trinity.. This board was made like 6 years ago and when you look at the design, it looks like something that came out recently.. It is very sleek and modern. They released the Triton and made it rather boxy. They've rounded the Studio out a bit. Yamaha did a good job with the tyros. It's a little boxy, but it has a pleasent look. I'd love to see someone go nuts with the design of their future keyboards. Korg did such a great job with the body of the Trinity.. I wish they and more makers would improve upon that..

I thought the KN-7000 was rather nice. I enjoyed playing it and liked its looks. Plus, if you drop anything on it while it's closed you don't break the display. It wasn't as ergonomic as the PSR740 - trying to hit the registration buttons in a hurry was frustrating. The only thing that put me off was its lack of XG. No XG - not interested. Incidentally, I think my 740 looks very sleek - one of the reasons I bought it.

Roland & Korg's new arrangers out this summer may prove interesting in the design look.

Maybe it's just me, but do those pedals seem a little too far in??? I wonder if the seat moves fowards too..

It comes in black or white as a stock model but their website says "any color available in a highgrade automobile laquer", assuming you're ready to put a deposit on a custom model.

Also from their website:
"Piano stool is extendible in width and adjustable in height, its distance to the keyboard is adjustable as well".

squeak_D ... even if the seat moves in, it looks like if your feet can reach the pedals, your hands may be too close to the keybed ... but I guess as piano manufacturers they know what they are doing ... So now that you know the seat is adjustable, how many you ordering? ...

Just curious..does that thing come in both standard or automatic, and a drivers side air-bag?...or is that optional?

Rolandfan,
If Roland releases a new arranger they won't announce it till the summer NAMM show. Patience,, patience. I'm curious as well, but want to see the Korg arrangers too. Does Korg have only one new model or a new series of arrangers?

Personally I really like that piano.. It's a beautiful design. It's not just a piano, but's also a piece of art. I think the disigner was dead on with this on.... I bet it's just as beautiful to play as it is to look at..

If I spend $140,000 on this, I would not even touch it let alone play it. I would have a big sign on it "Do not touch"!!

Their web site also has an upright version that kind of looks like the rear of a VW Beetle (or may be the front!)

Wow! That upright version is awsome... Very bold design. I like the idea of the folding out corners.. That's so cool you can get it in an automobile laq. It's a great step foward with the piano design.. The grand and upright have been the same for years.. It's about time for a change...

Im patienly awaiting the arrival of the PAX from Korg.

As far as the Trinity is concerned. Yep, the Trinity design was years ahead of its time. Really, I havent seen a keyboard as beutiful to behold as the trinity.
I remember the days, when I used to drool all over the magazines adds showing pics of the Trinity.
Literally would stare at them for hours..
Ahhhhh, finally got mine and fully loaded too.

It was a dream come true.
Then I got the Korg I30, which believe it or not, share the exact same case as the Trinity, except that its black and it doesnt have the crown around the main screen. Other than that, its a Triton case on the korg i30 for sure. Only its black.
These are my two most precious dreams come true..

I cant wait for the PAX. Really, im even having dreams of it...

Peace,

Hi Squeak,
personally I like the design of the KN7000 especially for home use. It tucks away nicely in the corner of the living room without being the centre of focus. It's the only one of my 3 keyboards that has been allowed to be in the main living room, the others are tucked away in a spare bedroom. The design certainly wasn't the reason I bought it, it was the nifty little SD card and it's Audio capabilities that won me.

best wishes

I am also waiting for PA-X, I currently have the PA80 and love it's sound.

Hmmm ... is it time to sell the PA80?? BTW, when is PA-X expected to ship, any idea?
