Well, the price is everything on a downscale model and we don;t know the price yet.

I haven't seen one yet but as many people here probably already know, I like my PA80 a lot, so I'll probably like this one as well. It is missing a few functions ( hard drive option and vocalizer are the two that immediately ring a bell if I remember right ). It seems to have a lot of the important functions of the PA80 though, so we'll just have to see what it is when it comes out and what the asking price will be. If it is a good bit less money than the PA80, then it might be a good effort on Korg's part to compete with the PSR2000, especially for the users whose first priority may not be live play as a solo act.

I think the PA60 is aimed EXACTLY at the solo acts. Players like me, that are using laptops are not concerned with hard drives, and I am still a believer that the harmonizer in the PA series is not as versitile as the one in the psr lineup or the outboard gear.(like TC and Digitech)

I do like the idea of STEREO line inputs, which the psr2k does not have, and if the patterns and fillin's have been improved(simplified) - I may be a candidate for this new board. The PA80 had too many compromises for me, and I suspect that the 60 will not be much different, but who knows? Maybe they did their homework, and copied some better features from other copmpanies.

there is a hard drive option for the PA60 but unlike the pa80 that just goes into the back without any other parts, you will need a hard drive kit sold by Korg to put a hard drive in.

I can't seem to figure out Korg , let alone the folks at Korg Italy the hard-core of the PA business.........(did I say hardcore, oh boy......)
As far as I have gathered the PA60 also lacks AFTERTOUCH, which is telling. And the amplification is less. And, sorry UD , the reports I have seen so far report an identicial style collection to the PA.
So it will have to be substantially cheaper to attract any buyers...........
it's a bit like releasing a new CD and after 6 months the first Single from the CD......but perhaps I may be jumping to conclusions here, ( one of my flaws admittedly), so let's just wait and see.
Anyway, as you all know I have my PA80 and
like bluesplayer I am massively content with it, in spite of some of its drawbacks.....

Yamaha is the same way too. Look at the major differences between the PSR-640/740 and the PSR-1000/2000.... The 64O was majorly stripped down from the 740. 1/2 the poly, no vocalizer, no modulation, no drawbars, less Mb's, and several other features. Even the PSR-1000/2000 have some big differences to. Again 1/2 the poly, less memory, no modulation wheel.. On the topic of modulation wheels, why in the hell does Yamaha do that? How hard would it be to add modulation wheels to the boards? Why in the world would they have it on the 740, 2000 and not on the 640, 1000? What a dumb thing to leave off. Heck you can get modulation wheels on the Casio's. Look at the Casio WK1800/1600/1630.. They differ by a disk drive and 2800 notes in the sequencer. Casio at least lets you have the modulation wheel on both models.

I think John is correct about the PA60 and the styles. This is unfortunate too. The styles in the PA80 are excellent for particular songs but they are aren't as generic as Yamaha's so they don't seem to fit as wide a variety of songs. A good example on the PA80 is the Open Rock 2 style. It works well for a very nice rendition of the Rolling Stones " Honky tonk Woman ". but little else. The fills ( as has been stated many times before ) don't match every variation well at all in a few of the styles. probably the fact that there are only 2 fills and 4 variations pr style contributes to that.

Maybe you are right about the PA60 being targeted at live players though Uncle Dave. Unless it's a huge drop in price, I wouldn't consider it for such a task vs the PSR2000. All the amenities that the PA80 DOES give me vs the 2000, plus the OS issues and the sounds, are why I chose the PA80 for my live act instead of the 2000. I am going to use the sequencer a lot, so the dual sequencer is also a huge plus ( I think the 60 will have that too ). Had the styles been more of a determining factor, and the OS in my 2000 not been so buggy, it would have been a totally different story. I'd have even kept the 1000 I had on loan just for the styles until a new 2000 was available.

Like John said, the PA80 for me has its drawbacks too, but I like the board anyway and I can live with them a lot easier than I could with the faults my version 1.0 2000 had.

Try that Open Rock style on "Ain't too proud to beg" or "Midnight Hour" .... maybe even "Fins" by Jimmy Buffett. They sound like similar beats. (in my head, anyway) I'm not familiar with the exact pattern, but if it works for one .... it MIGHT do double duty !

Yes casio add modulation wheels to their keyboards to make them sound reasonable! Seriously though, I agree the differences between the 640/740 and 1000/2000 are too significant, given the small price tag differences. Both the 640 and 1000 are without doubt low sales I would imagine, though maybe one of our dealers can verify if this is true? Still... dont think I would buy a casio just because its got a modulation wheel!!

I wouldn't buy one just for the modulation wheel either. I just don't see why Yamaha leaves them off a couple models. Of all the things they take off they choose the modultion wheel.. I don't understand why... The PSR-740/640 have the same body molding as do the PSR-1000/2000. Yet they cheeze you out of something as simple as a modulation wheel. Makes no sense to me...
