Hi Bill.
Do any of you get the feeling that Leigh didn't like the PA800's screen and contrast lol

Yes, and it sounded like that he didn't like the board that much either.

He didn't like the PA800 Eric, neither did I when I had mine.

Long story, part ex'd SD1 for PA800, that went after 3 weeks for the E80 (good machine), then that along with G1000 went for a Wersi because it was a good buy, not to be missed... lost a bit in the process as you do but happy now at long last

George.... any comment about the 'unreadable' display? Bright sunlight can make almost ANY display difficult to read, but is the PA800 any worse than Roland or Yamaha?

I play outdoors a lot with my G70, and find that a small 'hood' black on the inside makes it a snap to see in the worst conditions.

I wonder if Jazzhooves do all their reviews at the same time of day? I think that a 'newbie OOTB' review is very handy, but ONLY if followed up with a 'we've had it a month now', so stupid beginner misconceptions can be corrected, and the neater tricks that only a read of the manual can reveal can be demonstrated.

And perhaps a nod towards music from the last quarter of the last century. Not EVERYBODY makes a living playing big band and schlager music.

Hi Diki.

Jazzhooves can't do a follow up 'We've had it a month now' unless Korg kindly donate a PA800 to Leigh again who runs that site.
The display is very bad to read at any time of the day, it's not just a contrast issue but more of the colours Korg use on it.
The guy demonstrating the arranger does also play modern stuff as well (you can hear those on his other Podcasts) and it's impossible to please everyone's tastes in a short review. This is the first time Jazzhooves have done a live audio review and you don't see many of these posted on the net.

1. If you listen to the podcast he says daylight not sunlight, also it is most unlikely that the review was done outside.
2. He also says this is part 1 with part 2 to follow later, which will go into more depth of the PA 800 capabilities.

Cool, I look forward to part 2.

I just find it curious that no-one that has played a PA800 has seen fit to mention the poor display, yet..... Jazzhooves has reviewed an E80, so I guess if it didn't worry them about THAT, the PA800 must be harder to read...

In my store the PA800 is right in the front. It's about 2 feet from my large Southern facing glass windows and it's on the second tier of a two keyboard stand. There are 4, 6 foot flourescent light tubes above the keyboard at about 15 ft high.
The PA800's display is no harder or easier to read than the Tyros2 or E60. I don't think any of these displays are great to see, but they are all about the same.
In the Jazzhooves review, which I listened to some of it last night, I found myself wishing the reviewer would use the Inro 1 and the Ending 1 instead of Intro and Ending 2. All of exciting ones are in #1. In fairness, I didn't have time to hear the whole 43 minutes so maybe he played more of the styles using #1, but if not, he should have.
In just 3 months, I've sold over 25 PA800's and I could have sold dozens more if I could have been shipped more by Korg USA!
None of my customers have complained about the screen.

Its funny because one of the complaints i have about the PA1X is the screen. It is in such a position tat you almost have to be sitting over it to see it properly. I normal sittig position the screen is hard to see. Maybe thats the same design fault the guy is refering to ?
