EXR-40OR - 12/08/06 08:03 AM

Hello,

I am currently looking around at a couple different keyboards and arrangers, and have not been able to find any opinions or experiences regarding this (EXR-40OR) keyboard. How is the quality? How is the selection of sounds? Any information regarding this instrument would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hello -

I played one at GC here in Cincy. It seems to be an EXR5 type board with a chromatic scale feature (that I wouldn't have a clue how to play). The built-in speakers sounded good and the color blue is kind of cool too. The keypad is not bad. I like the EXR series, but it has a lot of windows to navigate through and the editing features are bare. I wouldn't use it live. Don't know what your needs are.

My opinion only

Hello Zuki,

I actually was going to use this more for home use, as I enjoy Asian music quite a lot. Were there a lot of Asian instruments to choose from (Erhu, Pipa, etc)? Thank you for responding.

Takeda,
You should be looking at the GW7. This keybaord has the same Arabic format as the EXR40oriental but it also includes Indian, Chineese and actual Asian instruments as well as Oriental (Arabic/Turkish).
The EXR40oriental is not an oriental instrument as in Asian countries but rather a middle eastern keyboard. Quarter tone tuning can also be done in the GW7 as well. There are no speakers but the sounds and look are more professional than the EXR40oriental and here in the USA it is even less espensive ($695.00 compared to $895.00 for the EXR40oriental). There are no built is speakers or floppy drive like on the EXR40oreintal but they both have USB ports to store additional styles and performances. Neither keyboard allows you to make your own styles. I prefer the Korg PA50 and Yamaha PSR3000 for these purposes.

Hello George,

Your insight again proves invaluable. I thank you greatly for your suggestion and will definitely look into it! I tend to compose more exotic pieces using unusual instruments, so a keyboard that has these features would be quite useful. Thanks again sir.

Just a quick addendum,

George, I responded in the E-50 thread regarding the E-60 and Korg PA800. Do you think these instruments could also further my needs? Thank you.

definetely not the E50. There are no ethnic drum kits at all in this keyboard. Yes, the PA800 would be suitable but at a much higher price. It does allow you to create your own styles and there are lots of ethnic sounds and drum sets and you can sample or download samples up to 64mb into this new model.
