sf2 on Laptop - 05/22/05 04:28 AM

Can anyone suggest a way of playing 'sf2' samples on a laptop, My laptop is a 2.8Ghz, 768 RAM machine, I would really like to use some of the sounds available on my Soundblaster sound card on my main PC from sounds gathered off the net, unfortunately my laptop has no facility for importing sf2 files...? can anybody help?

Thanks..

pasadoble, yes you can do this. You could check some of the discussions on this forum by Rikki and AJ (plus others). They have setup a system that works for them.

In general, you need a SF2 synth, e.g., Livesynth Pro, Synthfont ( http://www.synthfont.com/ ), etc. You need a host for VST or DX instruments and effects. If you want reasonable quality you would need an external soundcard (M-Audio, RME, Echo, etc.) and hard drive (streaming large samples).

Hi,
if all you want to do is play midi files using soundfonts try synthfont first http://www.synthfont.com/

If you require more, then you can expand on your system as Frank suggested.

best wishes
Rikki
