I found the Z2200 limit last night! - 12/27/04 07:37 AM

Well, the Logitech Z2200 has been more than adequate for my supper club job, BUT last night I had all the coaches, staff and wives for the Iowa State football team (in town for the Independence Bowl). They were in a super party mood and I had to REALLY crank it up, in fact to past the point of distortion. I had to turn it down a little to maintain the clarity.
It's the first time the little system hasn't quite been loud enough, so I will take the Barbettas tonight. Actually nobody noticed but me. However, tonight it's the official media party for the I-Bowl, so it may well be a similar celebration. Just in case, I'll be ready with the serious gear.
Now, I'm off to do a Nursing Home show.

everything has its limits Don ....the trick is to have backup for everything in your vehicle to compensate for the venue in question ya never know.....but you knew that

Actually I had the Barbettas in the van, but it wasn't enough of a problem to stop and bring them in. Everybody thought the music was great, and they compensated me accordingly, but I know it could have been a little better!

Which Barbettas do you use and how do you use them? I say them because you use the plural when talking about them...

Just looking for gig amplification advice. The logitech system would not be adequate as far as I can tell. I have been interetsed in Barbetta ever since they got a great review in Keyboard Mag a while back.

I have two Barbetta Sona 32C powered speakers. I love them. I also sometimes use my friend Hank's Sona 31Cs. They are also awesome, weigh less and are smaller. They are not quite as loud as the 32Cs, but certainly loud enough for most of the things I do.

Don

The 32C has a 15" spkr - better for bass, right? The 31 has, I believe, a 12". I have always found 15" better for kickin' bass.

Do you use a mixer, too?

Actually the 31C has two 8-inch speakers plus a tweeter. The 32C has one 15 and a horn.
The bass is outstanding on the 31c also. The cabinets are bi-amped and somehow they achieve a truly wonderful sound with those "small" speakers. Each model has balanced/unbalanced inputs, three channels per cabinet. Each channel has it's own volume control, and there is overall 3-band e.q. There is also an XLR output to pass the signal along if necessary.
The only advantage of the 32c is that it is more powerful and has a longer reach (throw), so better suited for large venues or outdoors.
