Your PA system

Just a short line to let me know what the solo keyboard/singer uses - also include how used (floor or mounted). Do you like, would you recommend.

I'm trying to decide on my next system.

It's impossible to try all brands out here locally. I have tried Mackie, JBL, Passport, Stagepas to name a few. But I haven't tried Peavey, Behringer, Tapco, etc and from my thread request, hope to get more feedback. This feedback, coupled with my own 'ears', will help me decide on the next purchase. Once I decide, I won't burden anyone again.

Tell me, you don't ask advice from your fellow members on anything?

I'm using the new "neo" Peavey PR 10's, which are very light weight and easy to handle. Peavey makes powered versions as well in the 10's, 12's, and 15. I'm powering them with the Yamaha 512sc stereo head. Works great in small rooms. Also, using a small light weight sub at 23 lbs. Like many of you, I'm always on the prowl for gear that sounds good, reliable, and easy/quick to set up.

....with a grain of salt asking is one thing plopping down the bucks on a lemon is another.....unless you want to go the 30/45 return policy route

I use a Mackie 808S mixer and a pair of 300i speakers on poles. SOmetimes I'll use my EV Sb120 sub woofer for larger spaces. If the place is real small and especially if I'm solo I'll use my Kustom KM100 keyboard amp and try to get it at least chair high.

I once played a bar/restaurant gig where I had to place the Mackies on the floor AND face them toward the wall - now that's getting into tight places.

I love my logtech z2200 for small rooms and my powered Crates for clubs. Had the Mackie 808s, too heavy.

Personally, I think the JBL's can't compete with the EV's. You've got to hear them side-by side and you will HEAR the difference. The Mackie's are very similar to the EV; a little less for a little less. I'm sorry, but I can't get into the rawer sound of the JBL. Good luck.

Though not cheap (street price: $1200+ each) I've auditioned & compared them with all the above competition, and the Ev SxA360's remain my TOP PICK for BEST sound (SMOOTH frequency response from TOP to BOTTOM) & very ergonomically weight balanced (36 lbs) for ease of transport. Though I'm still content with my SxA100's , I plan to eventually upgrade to the SxA360's when my budget permits.

The EV 360 and Mackie 450 are excellent choices..

Let me add another that out performs them..
Yorkville NX55p..

Power wise they are all similar with high spl ratings...The difference shows on the full range of the frequency response..

EV 360..goes down to 65hz

Makie 450..goes down to 55hz.

Yorkville NX55..goes down to 45 hz..[now that is getting down to sub woofer bottom]

All 3 have smooth range, but I want to be smooth to where the music is felt..

Donnie even the Yorkville NX520p's I use only go down to 60hz...Without our sub woofer..it seems so empty[comparable]..Of course if you are use to using the great units mentioned without a sub woofer..you have nothing to compare to...

These are all great speakers mentioned here.

But, judging by what you were using and the type of gigs you do, I'd think the 10" JBL speakers would be plenty and be smaller and lighter.

Zuki, I am almost ready to drive out to your home..so you can play my G70 and Traynor K4 keyboard amp...

Fran - would love to hear the G70. Pity it's an older board, but there's none around these woods - terrible

Come on over anytime. Leave the amp, because I definitely want to stick to powered monitors in stereo and on poles (forget the floor, I didn't like the sound after a few performances).

Has anyone heard of the RCF ART310A or 312A?
I haers that the RCF speakers are even better than the mackies. They are certainly much lighter.

This Amico series has some nice choices.

I just went through all the above posts again, and it's really refreshing to read the diversity of the systems used by forum members. I just retuned my keyboard and Bose L1 to get back to where I was a week before tuning for the Countryman mic, which took a few minutes at most. Then I fired up my Logitech Z-5500 system and the PSR-3000 and blew the house down. One day, maybe in January when the weather is realy nasty, I'll work out a quick setup system for the Z-5500. Damned those tiny speakers and a sub really kick butt. And, no one can bitch about the price at $199 on some Internet sites.

Yeah, I did, but now I'm trying to make things even faster than before, if I can. I want to keep all the satellites attached and ready to set up, and use just a single, twist-lock connector to hook them up to the sub. One stand, one connection and you're ready to play. It would be great for the smaller nursing home jobs, and for guys doing restaurant and mid small niteclub jobs it would be fantastic.

zuki, i agree with donny that you can only use your ears for your speakers, the only thing i will recommend is you get a really good quality stereo EQ to mould them to the different rooms you will play.
