Maybe 61 note keyboards you can swivel enough to get to the 'edges' of the keyboard comfortably enough, but I have found that 76 note keyboards really need a bench, where you can slide up or down a little, otherwise your wrists get a bit too tweaked for comfortable playing at the extremes.

Just a consideration.......

(and have you noticed how heavy one of those drum thrones is? Many people would rather play 61 note rather than 76 to save themselves 20lb extra in the keyboard, then lug a 30lb stool around!)

I use an adjustable office stool I bought at Office Depot about 10 years ago. It is very comfortable, has wheels and is fully adjustable.
I recently replaced a couple of rollers, so it should be good for a few more years.
I tried the drum throne, and while it folds up and takes less space in the van, it is heavy and not nearly as comfortable as my stool.

Ok ok, mine doesn't include any back whatsoever, and only minimually padded, but it's ULTRA lightweight (under 5 lbs), pretty rugged, and CHEAP PRICED. I purchased mine (a few years back) at a local discount art supply store (Amsterdam Art) for about $18. I spend 1/2 my keyboard performance time seated squarely on the padded seat, yet spend the other half the time leaning againest the edge of the stool for support, while operating the foot pedals with either one or both my left & right feet at the same time. The stool is durable (holding up to 3 years of use & thrashing), especially at such a cheap price, and I never have to worry about it getting knocked about on stage or hesistate to utilize it to fling into the audience if the crowds get too wild. :

Scott, that's a horrible, ugly little stool. Mine is much prettier and more comfortable. Far better than yours.
[Well we can't argue much about keyboards right now, can we?]

Ok, I won't argue with that, but considering the body part seated up against atop it, I suppose its a formible match.

Ok DonM, how much does your stool weigh? Is it under 5 lbs, affording ez transport on/off stage & tossing it about? btw: I got my stool's legs extended longer than the one pictured. My trusty feather weight (abeit ugly) stool is always READY to go, no setup, and no need to ever worry about leaving/losing it on the gig as no one would ever want to claim it anyway. Ok, back to the more important topic: 'MY keyboard's better than yours'. - Scott

I've been using this one for about three years, it's heavy-duty and rugged, and it's fully adjustable. Quiklok D-749 sells for about $150.

Cheers,

This is absolutely the most comfortable throne on the market (not including the one in my reading room)

The Nitro with the backrest is great.

They are all ugly...maybe that is why I like to stand...it is also easier to adjust and take a better peek at the hot girls on the floor..

I can roll my stool in, so I don't have to lift it at all. And I can use it for a dolly.
Nah, nah, nah, nah!!
And my keyboard's better than yours too.

And don't forget SoundSeat who make excellent seats for keyboard players. And J.R. who makes them is a very approachable guy. I have a SoundSeat here at home and I can't fault it.

Fran, you may not be able to hit the high notes (G - String) on stage.

It almost seems like Fran is losing his life long interest in the G1000. Who would have thought? Sad!!!

Frank ..no way.
If anything, my love affair wiyh my G1000 is re kindled..After playing a few different boards[especially on the job], I know the G1000 is still the best..I even prefer it as a MIDI controller, over the others..

You could get the girl to carry the G1000 for you, and have the best of both worlds.
