Hi Craig,
TO me it sounds good, and not as the G-70 sound! The drums form what I can hear are good. THink this will be a good instrument!

It does sound promising, hopefully all the G70 faults have been ironed out for this release.
I should get a DVD demo from a local music shop next week if it's available then as they're telling me, so when it arrives I will have a good listen and type on here what I think (good or bad, more good I hope).

Re: Roland E80 video demonstration - 06/03/06 02:25 PM

That's a little more like it. The E-80 sounded more impressive on this video.

Having the ability to add the SRX expansion cards will greatly increase the E-80's appeal if you ask me. There are some excellent high quality sounds on Roland's substantial list of various SRX cards. If you don't mind the weight then the E-80 could be a top contender with the likes of the Tyros2 or Ketron's new SD5.

The actual selling price of the E-80 is going to be a huge factor for many. And that goes for the Ketron SD5 as well. If one or both substantially undercut the Tyros2' price then Yamaha may have a real fight on their hands concerning marketshare.

I also wonder what Korg has up their sleeve? The Pa1X/PRO is getting long in the tooth and other manufacturers are going full steam ahead. Except for maybe GEM that is.

Korg needs to step up to the plate and deliver big time if they want to stay in the race. I really expect something in the way of high-end from them at Summer NAMM. We shall see..

Not a peep from GEM either. Although they could surprise us at NAMM as well.

Sometimes silence is a companies greatest weapon... Then BAM!! The next superstar in high end Arrangers could be right around the corner just waiting to be unveiled in a calculated and highly strategic maneuver.

Best regards,
Mike

The Roland E80 rrp is £2499 in the UK and the shops are advertising them at £1999 cash, although I doubt some of them will be able to supply you with one on release date.
The SD5 I've seen advertised for £1750, so the Ketron is the cheapest and the E80 is roughly the same price as you can negotiate a T2 for. I do know that many friends who went to the Blackpool festival didn't think much to the E80 as it still sounds like a G70 with less keys but I'll wait until I get to play one. If this is the case (read the review by Abacus on SZ) then it could well look like Roland have shot themselves in the foot again.

Re: Roland E80 video demonstration - 06/04/06 06:53 AM

the style of demo is very similar to the one used to launch he g70. I like what i have heard so far although i would have liked to have seen much greater use of the actual arranger rather than preprogrammed songs. The sound is very good from the video. It would appear though that Roland does not have an answer to yamahas SA voices as i assume they would have featured that on the video. Its a good replacement for the g70 if it sounds as good as the demo in real life but its hard to see a feature on the board that is much different to the g70. At least nothing jumps out at me right now. The speakers look good and the piano sounded gorgeous. The drums were impressive and guitars, organs and brass. Like the touch screen and the draws bars just like the PAX1. Not so sure what purpose the speaker modelling function will be to anyone,or the ability to switch of the speakers, just seemed a strange thing to feature to me.

Altogether sounds like a nice board

E50/60 demos are good, but would have prefered more acoustic demos, like pianos, electic pianos, guitars, organs. The drums and brass were good.
Any news on when they will hit the streets?

Hello Starkeeper
According to Roland at the Blackpool Keyboard Festival, they will be released onto the UK market towards the end of August – September.
Hope this helps.
