Damned beepers... - 11/17/05 05:52 AM

Last night, while performing in a local Italian restaurant there were severel young ladies sitting at the bar. While I was in the middle of performing Key Largo here beeper went off, then she was on her cellular telephone. Damned that's annoying, but something I guess we'll have to get used to seeing. This morning, Helmut Licht, an outstanding performer and musician who resides in the Baltimore area provided me with his Song Of The Week called Beepers. It really made my day, and I hope it makes yours as well. A big thanks to Helmut for his wonderful creations.

Gary, Donny answers his calls on stage...so I guess it doesn't bother him..

I can see it now...in the middle of a raggae tune...phone rings...STOP the music...."Hello"....Alright Nancy ,I'll bring a quart of milk home.......and raggae goes on..

I'm amazed at how many people come in and have a $100. dinner, then stay on the cell phone most of the evening.
Every time I hear one ring when I'm playing, if I'm between songs, I say "That must be Nashville calling me again. Would you tell them I already have a job please?"

The best one I ever heard was at a concert at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall a few months ago. The concert was Peter Cincotti and the entire BSO. Right as Peter sat down at the piano to start a ballad, a cell phone went off in the audience. Without missing a beat Peter said, "Tell 'em I'm not here." The orchestra members were laughing so hard they could hardly play. One of those moments.

Salud,

Joe

I don't have problems with phones yet.Its Early days.
I do have trouble with staff in nursing homes talking loudly during performances.
Could it be younger people are not being trained in how to behave during live perfomances.
Perhaps they cannot see the difference in watching television and an live act.
I have been conducting a male church congregation for many years and in one instance we had started a hymn and I noted there was talking and illattention.
I saw red and stoped the singing and in a nice way demanded their attention.
Haven't had any more trouble for years.
One brother a good friend was so taken aback the he told of the event wherever he went round the world.
