Recording a live performance

Recording a live performance - 09/15/05 01:22 PM

I would like to get some feedback on how you all record your live performance (keyboards & vocals). Is it possible to use a small device like an ipod with line in, or record with something like a Marantz right to CD or what? This goes for studio recording as well as live gigs.

Just wondering, while I'm waiting for my keyboards to arrive.

Thanks,
Marty

Marty , there are many ways to record your performance..
If I recall you are buying a keyboard with a mic input..If that is the case, you can come out of the keyboard[stereo outs] into your recording device..
If you are using an external mixer..run your mix out of the mixer outputs[or record out jacks], to your recording device..

Some of the recording devices we use are as follows:
MP3 recorders such as Nomad.
Mini disc recorder[Sony, Sharp].
Digital recorders[Tascam,Roland, Korg, Zoom ,Yamaha etc].
Computer HD recording, Desktop and laptops[this is my preference, you have access to all your editing programs, and burn to CD]..

Hi Marty
I am in the process of going for a Creative Nomad Jukebox.
Reason?? Well I have heard what Don has done for me using Nomad while recording a live performance and converting to MP3.
Sounds perfect!!

Hi Marty and Nigel (Moderator)
Sorry that the above mail has printed.
I wanted to delete it and then add a further comment but the ****system will not allow me to delete.
What I simply wanted to do was to delete the original and add a further comment.
Why Oh. why can we not do this without the Ok from the Moderator?????????? (Nigel?)

@Marty - what I wanted to add was that using Nomad also records the background from the audience! which is fantastic!

Actually the Nomad will only record the background if the vocal mic picks it up , or if you put a mic on the audience.
I use it one of two ways, either directly out of the keyboard or out of the mixer.

We had some discussion about being able to delete sometime back. Because having the ability to delete using this BBS software allows a user who starts a thread to delete the entire thread it was decided by most people that they'd prefer not be able to delete at all rather than allow someone to remove an entire thread.

It is just an odd feature of this software that runs the BBS.

Nigel. I assume for the same reason that means there is no way to edit your reply ?which is a shame.
