Wanted everyones opinion on this.. Thought it'd be interesting to see... - 03/27/03 09:25 AM
I was talking to a few people about this yesterday, and we all talked about our own list, and I thought it would be interesting to post this here.. Many times the topic of synth's vs arrangers has come up here on the forum, and I like several others here feel that anyone would benefit from owning both. We thought that owning both an arranger and a synth/workstation would be good, but we also felt just a straight performance synth (with no sequencer would also be a good thing to have...) So if anyone wants to answer, what would your choices be if you could perform with One arranger, One Synth/Workstation, and One Performance Synth (that had no sequencer) all in one set up..?? Here's my list.
Arranger: Yamaha 9000 Pro
Synth/Workstation: Yamaha Motif (76 key)
Performance Synth: Alesis QS6.2,

Arranger/Workstation/Synth= genesys
Additional 88 keys for a Piano/El. Piano= Promega 2
If I need to pick another synth/workstation (other than Generalmusic stuff) I'd have to say I am a fan of the Kurzweil K2500x loaded (my opinion, the k2500 has more effect processor option than the k2600 as such, is a better rig.)

I already have two of the three that I want:
Arranger - PA80 ( I might be willing to substitute this with the 9000 pro but I'm not certain that I would. Instead I'd rather have both, but will gladly "settle" for the PSR2000 I'm getting to complement it )
Workstation - Motif 6 with VL and AN plug ins( I'm sticking with it ). Second choice if I didn't have it might be the Fantom S.
Then I would love to add a Nord Lead or perhaps the new Moog, because I recently demo'ed the latter at the music store and it sounded so awesome, and the touch pad that alters sounds in real time is very cool, but it's a bit too pricey for me for what it is.

You haven't heard or played a Promega 3 have you? The P250 is good, but by no means the best.
