LOVE my PSR2100

LOVE my PSR2100 - 09/23/03 07:45 PM

Ever since I picked up my PSR2100 back in July, I look at this board AND Yamaha with so much respect. This board is a gold mine! Like so many of you have said, it is a LOT of keyboard for the money. I look at my VA-7 and KN7000 and KR7 and say, "That's a LOT of money for a keyboard!"

One of the things I like about the PSR is that it leans more toward the creation of contemporary music. The KN7000 is more like an organ disguised as a keyboard. I've had it for a year and still don't know if I really like it.

I realize these opinions are merely my own and many of you will not agree. That's OK we all have different tastes. I just feel really good about my Yammie right now and I love when I get something that seems to be worth more than what I paid for it.

It's hard for me to believe that so much technology is packed into this keyboard, and others too for that matter.
Ten years ago, if the technology even existed, such a system would have been at least 10 times a much, because you would have to assemble all the components.

Gotta agree with Don Mason. If they made this keyboard 10 years ago, none of us would have been able to afford it. The 2000 and 2100 are, in the opinion of many performing musicians, the best keyboard available for their needs. And, while the Tyros is an excellent keyboard, you can buy a 2100, plus a spare 2100, and still have a few bucks left over for the price of a Tyros.

Cheers,

I said the same thing when I got a PSR740. But, when the 2000 came out it blew my mind. The operating system on the 2000 made it so much easier to navigate on stage.

Even though there were enhancements with the introduction of the 2100 and Tyros, I decided to stay with the 2000 and buy a 2nd one as back up to avoid any compatabilaty problems with styles and registrations.

I agree also...as a skeptic of the early days of the 2k release and seeing its potential evolve thru the years...
now it "ALL" makes sense in so many ways "For ME on stage" as a solo performer.
Actully the cost is insignificant if it does what I need it to do.

... "Great Aranger KB".....Final Answer!

Honestly I really LOVE my 2k. With all this stuff inside makes me wonder what does the future KBīs bring to you..

So far I have found one tiny thing I would like to see different in future Yammies like 2k, changing XG-voices. I like the idea to pick a voice by pressing one button(guitar, strings...) but why does not XG-voices work like that

Donīt kill me for this...

Hi Donny,

Realizing that you owned the PSR2000 briefly (became disatisfied with it, and then subsequently dumped it), I'm curious to find out what 'specific' new or improved features on the PSR2100 have caused you to have a changed opinion about this newer Yamaha PSR2100 model over the PSR2000.

Re: LOVE my PSR2100 - 09/24/03 05:04 PM

Hi Scott,...I'm using a Psr2000 right now [after so many other KB's]...no need for the 2100 [not much difference to warrant a purchase]but this time around I approached the setup and navagtion a bit differently...seting up & running "ALL" registrations off Floppy..leaving the user memory available for my special styles "Only".....Smf....Mp3 are run off the Laptop....I also have the Music Finder custom made to suit hundreds of my songs with the "key" in the Title eg: [My Way C ]ETC...unlike the reg the MF wont save Key/Style variation....The 2k has too many pros vs cons for my work at this time. So far now it's doing its job, I'm happy, my audience is happy....!

Take care.....

Hi Donny

In other words you're using a "Gig Disk" with styles and OTS settings?

The way Donny set his up is similar to a gig disk, however, the access is through registration memory slots stored on a floppy instead of just style files renamed to song titles. It's really effective, and you do lots of quick changes on the fly. It's almost like a modified version of the keyboard's MFD, but with much faster access.

Re: LOVE my PSR2100 - 09/24/03 08:37 PM

Most all my registrations are just that: Registrations that I tweaked and saved to disk by song title.

But I also compiled a disk of my favorites from Gary's gig disks. Since you can't save key and tempo to style files, I also linked my custom settings to Gary's styles via registrations. Then, saved the registrations on the same disk with the corresponding style. (geez, that sounds more complicated than it is.)

In short, it is a two step process when I use one of Gary's styles.
1. Call up the style
2. Call up the registration

Sure, it is a couple more button pushes, but since my user memory is already maxed out with other styles I use, it's a lot easier and less time consuming than setting up key and tempo changes for one of Gary's styles.

Eddie,

You didnt mention the music finder..do you have it setup on your KB with all your songs via the Music Finder Software editor?

Eddie, actually you can save tempo to style files. Just put the style into the Style Creator and change the tempo. Rename if you wish, and save. I'm not sure what you mean by saving the key, but you can save it in the Style Name, as Donny does.

Re: LOVE my PSR2100 - 09/25/03 09:51 AM

Don and Donny...
Yup..you are right...using the style creator does give us the abiblity to change the tempo of the style on a gig disk, without having to save in User Memory. Thanks for that tip.

By "saving the key" I meant saving a transposition. I seen no way to set and save a specific transpose to Gary's or any style disk. Call up a style the 2000 keeps the same key of the previous song...unless you use the registration buttons.
The same is true for the Music Finder.

I mentioned the two step procedure of 1.calling up a style from disk and 2. creating a registration that links to the style --- because it also gives you the ability to set other parameters, such as footpedal function, VH and mic settings and DSP's.

If all of those changes could be saved via the Style Creator without having to save to (my already maxed-out) User Memory first, it would be faster and more convenient. But, I see no way.
