PSR-560 - 12/23/00 04:26 PM

I know this doesn't have much to do with an arranger keyboard but please help!:

I was at my local Yamaha dealer here in Saint John, NB, Canada looking at a PSR-540. I told the dealer I am planning on purchasing one and he told me to wait until January when the PSR-560 comes out for the same price. He wasn't sure about the deatils of the board but did say it was an update of the 540. Does anyone know any info or have any pics of this? Apparently Yamaha does this every 6 months to update the keyboard either cosmetically or sometimes for adding features, etc.

Any info on this would bge greatly appreciated! (PS- He also said because the 560 would be about the same price as the 540, the 540's price is expected to drop.)

Thanks,
Peter

Hi Wyred

Yamaha seems to introduce fairly significant upgrades every year or two. Often this involves migrating features down from a higher level. For example, a PSR-550 might use the 4-variation styles of the PSR-640 rather than the 2-variation styles of the PSR-540. Just guessing, but it seems worth waiting a month or less to find out.

Yamaha often introduces a new model at a show such as NAMM, then it isn't available to the public for many months. It was more than a year after the 8000 was introduced that it was actually available for sale. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it!

I agree with Don that you might have to wait a long time for the next models. However, if you wait one month (by which time the next NAMM will be over), you will at least find out whether or not it will be worth waiting for. (If, indeed, new models are introduced.) Whatever you get, you will eventually want more (I guess), so you might buy the 540 anyway, save money and get started earlier.
