Nashville - 07/13/01 05:55 AM

Next week at this time I will be walking into NAMM. Of course I will be checking out the arranger keyboards and the TC Helicion Voice Prism. If any of you want something checked out let me know.

I know DanO will be there at the Ketron booth. Anyone else going?

There is some new information about the Ver.2 and Ver.3 upgrades from Yamaha. Although they published these prices in the current July 1,2002 price lists to all their US dealers, Yamaha is still working out the details of this new upgrade. Although not sure yet, there might be a hardware issue involved with the upgrade although i have heard nothing as to what this hardware issue might be. Also, it's possible that just an operating system enhancement, for new features might be available (without charge) and last it's possible that nothing new will be available. How's that for a lot of information. So, as you can see this is still up in the air.

I'd like to hear anything about new products or upgrades planned by Technics, Korg, and Yamaha.

Tom,
you'll have to carry a really big BIG bag....
Put in it as much information and news as you
manage to carry back home, and use the rest of
the year to tell us about it!
GJ

PS, please see if there are any Technics news
as well if you get any pockets left to put it into.

Tom, I'm very interested in the new PSR2000. We've already gotten some information on this new machine, but one thing not clear is exactly how user styles will be handled. In the old 540/640/740 line, there was room for only 3 user styles -- very limiting. How many user styles will be loadable in the new system? The new system also seems to have adapted the 9000 OS, at least in part -- I understand there is not a disk drive option. But the 9000 OS allowed users to store some styles in flash memory. Will this option also be available on the new 1000/2000 keyboards? If it is, there won't be as much of a need to have a lot of "user style" slots available. Finally, the early notes indicate that the 2000 will be able to show lyrics in the display, as well as the melody. How is it going to do this? What does the user have to do to get the lyrics and melody into the machine?
I purchased a 540 in January and recently tried out the 550. Although it looked the same, the voices and styles were significantly improved. I am confident the sounds and styles in the new 1000/2000 series will be super. And, for one half to one third the price of the 9000 Pro, this beauty sure looks like an excellent bet for my upgrade needs! We will all look forward to your report!

I am adding a comment here just to bring Tom's note back to the top of the list. Tomorrow is the 20th and the Summer NAMM in Nashville starts tomorrow and runs through Sunday. Saturday morning I'm heading off for a week of relaxation in the Smokey Mountains and I won't have a computer with (although I am taking my keyboard)! I'm hoping Tom, or one of the other forum members who may be there, will be able to provide a report Friday night!

George,

Sounds just like the tax cut . . . part of it is coming sometime in the near future . . . and part depends on "triggers" in the economy . . . and part depends on the surplus (that disappeared sometime in June).

I'm sure Yamaha will do something, I just hope they do better than congress!

Regards,
Steve

I thought the PSR2000 had a smart media slot that would serve as a large floppy. I thought the hardware issue for the PSR9k and the 9kPro was a dongle for copy protection. It would be nice if it were a memory upgrade instead.

Hi Tom - I hope you will not only audition and report back feedback on the Solton SD1 (did they release the NEW OS version yet? if so, did they implement the jazz style rootless voicing recognition?), but also make it a SPECIAL point to visit the Technics booth to checkout the Technics KN6500. I would really appreciate hearing your CANDID feedback comparing BOTH of these two keyboards. Have FUN and don't forget to wear your 'walking' shoes

Tom,
Sorry I won't be there. I had hoped to go but finances won't permit it. Maybe next time. Have fun!!
